I have just fill my tank, and for the second time the fuel gauge indicator hasn't shown a full tank.

Can anybody tell me why this has happened? What type of indicator sensor is in the tank? And is this a perminant problem or just a temporary one?

I always zero my trip from tank to tank but I would prefer things to work properly.

Same happened to me. I had 5 bars showing, but it started to rain (on M6), so went into services to put on waterproofs, have coffee and fill up (rather than stop again later). Brim filled tank, showed only 3 bars! Then moved at random for next 50 or so miles, then started to work normally again.

Fuel gauge has always bn odd on mine. At first no warning light until some time after last bar went, but now warning light sometimes comes on with one bar left.

Using tip meter is little help - I have put 20 litres in after 150 miles and done 210 miles on 18 litres!

Many complain of the quirky RID fuel gauge...
anyway I had a similar problem after removing tank
once and was advised to clean the terminals on the
square black connector under RHS cover (it unclips toward front)and refit - fixed prblem identical to yours. Worth a try before dicking with the sender inside tank which I believe is
VERY temperamental!

Titch,

Mine is an 02/52 GS and I have a similar problem. The guage never shows full. I mentioned it at the 6000 service and the garage told me they would replace it under warranty on the 12000 service. So depending on how old yours is have a word with the dealer.

Very temperamental they are too!!
