Furthermore to my experience on my first offroad ride as outlined in another thread (wrt. broken topbox) I also experienced a faulty light switch. With the headlight in the bright position the headlight (and little blue indication on the RID) flickers on and off while riding, it seems there is a bad contact in the switch itself because with slight pressure on the switch while in the bright position it switches off. BMW will fix/replace it but just another rant about my 12GS after a first ride, it should not happen, not from BMW especially not on a GS !

(don't get me wrong, despite all the little niggles I have with my 12GS it is still great fun, I enjoy it very much)

This is a very common fault though many are only just finding it as the days get darker earlier (over here). At the last count I think my dealer had replaced 8.

Dealer demo bike the same.

Hi there people just had the dealer demo bike for a day and a half, head light switch was the same would not stay on high beam.

The instruments and wind shield wobble a lot, more than my 1150.

Fast bike nice for wheelies, good breaks. Not as comfortable as my 1150.

Extreamly light, felt like a XR-600.

My way to describe it, amazing machine, engine, but over all a bit like riding a JET SKI with all that plastic, picked up the 1150 when I took it back and it was like Ahhhhhh!!! home again, so much nicer to ride.

Opinions are like ass holes everyones got one and they usually stink!!!
All the best Richard.:beerjug:

Had the same problem with the light switch, the dealer replaced the instrument cluster on the bar. All seems ok other than the cluster being a bit on the loose side but this seems to be a "feature" of the bikes.

cluster being a bit on the loose side

Shouldn't be. Screen shouldn't wobble either.

Thanks to this forum I checked the bike for the known 1200gs problems prior to driving off. The only problem I found was the faulty high beam switch. Dealer didn't seem to know it was an issue with GS's.

Dealer said he normally gets better feedback on common GS faults from this forum rather than from BMW!!
