I got my zumo 550 in May 08...

worked fine, until it started to slow up.. started to lag behind on what was on the screen, compared to where I actually was...

On advice of Garmin, I sent it back (Nov 08).

WOW... three days later, a replacement is in the post :bounce1 :clap

Sadly, the replacent had MORE faults than the one I sent back :nenau

Good old GARMIN wanted ME to send the faulty one they had sent me in replacement for my less faulty one, back to them for repair at MY EXPENSE :augie

Needless to say.... they collected it FOC!

A replacement arrived in due course, and all seemed to be working fine.... until...

Last week it locked up, couldn't switch it off.... nothing... just stared at me. Managed to borrow an allen key, removed battery... put it back together. It all started working again fine. Yesterday it wouldnt switch on, again removed bat and replaced, now it works again.

Has anyone else suffered this latest issue, with it locking up?
What have you done to resolve it?

Should I now send this one back? The two replacements have been 'refurb' modelsso far.
Can I demand a brand new one?

What do you reckon???? :blast :comfort

Not had it personally but I believe the later software versions should cure this fault. Do you know how to update it?

....yep... did it via the Web updater... the day before it locked up last time...

But thanks :)

Any other thoughts out there?

Cheers

Is that the one with the hammer :D

Or... switching on with my finger in the corner of the screen or something???

I tried it last night and I think it worked but it saved all the previous fave's etc, so not sure if I did it right or not???

How do I do it properly???

Am sure you have done this already, but do a search on here for the sticky by whatton on the "Wiki Zumo Site" go to tips an tricks that will tell ya how to reset...if all fails there, get your answers by searching the zumoforums:thumb2

If you still have your Fav & Routes you did a soft reset.

Bear with me now as I might be repeating info you already know...but I'm starting from the top so to speak.....

First of all...check firmware on the unit itself.....it should be firmware 4.60

Before you carry out a hard re-set connect the unit to your PC and download all your favorites & routes and tracks to Mapsource as a back-up to reload the unit after a hard reset.

Resetting your unit will clear user memory, along with deleting possible corruption. The reset will erase all your saved Favorites & Routes.

Turn the unit OFF, then HOLD your thumb on the furthest bottom right hand corner of the screen, push as far into the corner as you can on the screen itself. While holding your thumb/finger on the screen press and hold the POWER ON button until you see the ZUMO splash screen, once the splash screen is up you can release the power, but continue to hold your thumb in the right corner of the screen for another 5 - 10 seconds, you should see a window that pops up and asks "Do you really want to erase all user data?", make sure to answer YES to this window, if you don't see this window, then turn unit OFF and try the above instructions again, ensuring your thumb is in the furthest portion of the bottom right hand corner of the touch screen.

When you reset , place the unit in a clear sky view location, stationary, for about 15 minutes to rebuild satellite memory. Then re-set your preferences and reload your fav & routes from mapsource.

If this does not sort out your unit you gotta problem I'm afraid and need :help. Back to Garmin or you can use your hammer hard re-set :augie

GPS Fault

I had a problem with a Zumo 550 bought in Dec. It wouldn't turn on unless I removed and refitted the battery, sometimes 2 or 3 times. I contacted Garmin and they sent me a page of things to try, including software update and hard reset, but the switching problem remained. In the end I returned it to Amazon, who sent a replacement. Check out this site about Sales Of Goods Act, you might have a claim against the supplier rather than the manufacturer. Things you buy are supposed to last a reasonable time without faults, and you only bought it in May last year. I suspect though you may now have a problem because you don't have the original faulty unit.

Thanks :)

I'll do the download and then follow up with the Hard reset...

Failing that, I'll try Garmin...
