Could I ask a favour of someone with 1200 GSA rails?

Im fitting GSA pannier rails to my GS, and one of the attachment points doesnt look "right". Im afraid Im missing some piece.

Could someone with 1200 GSA Pannier rails take a close up shot of the attachment point indicated on the photo?

Also, how close should the rails be to an OEM exhaust? Ive only got a tiny clearance, but the pillion peg may be at a funny angle as its had a bang.

Photo has been stolen from the "show us your GS" thread as Ive been trawling through looking for a clear photo :blast

Thanks!!

Theres a Spacer fits inside the Plastic .
This allows the Actual Pannier Frame to sit on it and ,not rub the
plastic .The Std BMW one is 18-19mm . And alloy.
You need a Minimum of 16 to allow fitment.

The area you have circled should contain a "spacer about ½"? or so in lenght" between the rack and the bike.
Here's an old photo I just so happen to have and hope it helps you.

On the exhaust side, sometimes loosening the exhaust assembly and push the muffler assembly towards the wheel. The most space I achieved was about a ¼" to ½" of space from rack to muffler and when all tightened back up. Never loosened up after 20K miles.

Thanks guys. I have about 1/4" between rails and the can - I just thought even before mounting boxes or luggage, that it was a bit close. Dont want to scratch the nice shiney bits!

Right - off to B&Q tomorrow for spacers!

Its an Engineering shop you need to go to .
You wont get them at B&Q.
Nylon will do as well as Aluminium. If you use nylon , be sure to put a
washer each end.
The Minimum you need is 16 long but up to 19 will be ok.
Diameter 17mm.

1/4" doesnt sound like a lot . It wouldnt be enough for me The 12 Runs really hot
There is a Good amount of Manouver in the Exhaust
