Right, a group of us UKgsers recently did the First Biker on Scene (FBoS) first aid training course here in north wales. A few others couldnt make the date but expressed an interest.

I have discussed the possibilities (I Stress, just possibilities at this stage, nothing confirmed yet), of having a course run on the sunday of the event.

Paul (BHT) has rightly said that he was not sure what interest there would be, as it would most likley be the sunday, but there is the space and facilities at the venue to run the course, if sufficient people are interested.

It would be an all day affair.. ie 8hrs.. from 9am till approx 5pm.

The course covered, topics such as mechanism of truama, basic life support, helmat removal, and casualty movement. Its designed for bikers to assist bikers and ensure you are equipped with sufficient knowledge to correctly help an injured biker and improve their chance of survival.

The course is approved and certificate issued by The Faculty of Pre-Hospital Care of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh. Certificate is valid for two years.

The course would be for a max of 12 people. Costs would depend on numbers, but i believe it would be between £40 to £50 ish.

At this stage I just wish to guage the interest.. so if you "seriously" wish to do this course, please post here. And I will see what can be done.

Cheers

John

PS: Personally I believe this to a brilliant course and seriously recommend it to anyone who rides, and particularly rides out in groups. I beleive the other attendees of our recent course will back me up in that belief.

While touring this year one of our group had the misfortune to hit a lorry.

We were the first on the scene, and I've got to say that I didn't have a clue what to do. However SWMBO was a nurse and so has a pretty good knowledge of first aid and other things medical. So she handled the rider, and I handled the traffic till the cops / paramedics arrived.

It is a scary, panic driven time as you don't know what to do for the best.

I would seriously suggest that anyone who rides bikes (groups, mates, tours or alone) does something like this.

I'd definitely like to express an interest (maybe also for SWMBO)

Cheers

Having just put Sunday's training into practice, it helps a lot knowing what to do (even if i didn't get it all right). It means you can make a difference and not feel helpless. I would strongly recommend it to everyone.

Need to know by 7th of December 2007

Hi Folks forgot to mention.. I need to know prospective numbers for people interested by the 7th of December so we have time to arrange things with the course providers.

update.

Sadly I havent had many enquiries about the fbos course and not enough to ask the guys to make a special trip down for the club, so sorry to say this plan is now scrubbed. I have a series of new dates for bikesafe/fbos courses in 2008 which i will post up in the training sections shortly. Thanks to those who were interested. Please have look at the 2008 dates and hope you can make one of those.

Cheers John.
