Anyone interested in doing the course? I came across an m/c accident last year doing LEJoG and thought it would be a good idea to do First aid course for motorcyclists.

It's not cheap at £65 pp or £55 pp for 12 or more people but it might be a life saver for someone one day.

This one seems quite good, I don't know if other courses are available:

Anyone else interested in booking up a days training?

Having done the FBOS course 3 years ago this is the best course to do, as its is for Bikers.

I've been trying to set one up down in Plymouth, but they are abit slow getting back with some dates - I'll try again. There after I was going to open it up on here, my local IAM and the other club to try and get 12. (There could be a small cost for the venue, however trying to get it for free).

I'm definitely interested in this. It been several years since I did first aid training and would be useful for trip to The Gambia next Jan.

Could use my place as venue if you want.

I need to do a refresher too, count me in, ooh I hope I get the resussy Annie first!

Just spoken to the lass who organises these courses: The course can be on a Saturday, they need a minimum of 3 weeks notice to book the course, preferable more. They have a room available in their Sowton Industrial Estate unit (just off the M5) which can be used for the course with no extra charge.

The other options are to join in with Dave and Val's course in Plymouth (if that's OK Dave and Val?) or to take up Sid's generous offer and have the training at his place.

I only started this thread yesterday so I suggest we let it run for a couple of weeks, take on board any other suggestions and then decide the best time and place to do the training: what says everybody else?

I would be up for this, and can provide an office in Plymouth center which would seat 10 to 15 if this would help.

Recently did Fbos in Bridgwater, run as part of a series put on by Somerset road safety partnership, (motorcycle division - yes we have one! ) AND was FULLY FUNDED by the partnership. The curriculum is a nationally recognised and patented course, hence a cost involved in each delivery to participants.

Ask for Dave, at the training centre, Dorchester; he runs a good day.

I know Devon road safety partnership is part of a government flagship scheme to improve safety on the roads, so you guys down there may be pushing at an open door if you approach your partnership for funding.

As an extra benefit of his course, participants are helped to consider how they can help in any road traffic incident they come across, and as such, if you are a biker stopping to help, it must help our image when car drivers remember the guy who stopped to help was a biker.....just a thought.

cheers all.

I did this course just before Christmas, free of charge and a days bikesafe training too.

The paramedic teaching the course told us that the idea came from ambulances turning up at a road traffic collision and the bikes had filtered to the front and were sat there, if they had basic first aid experience then they could be first on scene.

Well worth doing. :thumb2

Paul and I did this course a couple of years ago....well worth doing...we learnt alot about removing helmets as safely as possible etc....
We did it with the Somerset Advanced Motorcyclists group and I think it cost around £30 each......

Did the course last year in Dorchester. Had to pay :blast

Having said that it is very worthwhile and I would recommend it to anyone.

In my opinion it is something that needs to be refreshed every 2-3 years.

Thanks for that macca. I have just contacted Mike Newcombe, the Road Safety Officer for Devon County Council and he is hoping we can get a contribution from the council for the course. It looks like those who would like to attend the training would have to pay something (£10 was mentioned on the telephone) to ensure they turn up on the day. Mike is going to get back to me, I'll post as soon as I know more.

Somerset County Council are doing the training for free at the moment apparently.

Here is the latest update on the Course. It's looking like Devon County Council will subsidize the course so the cost to each person attending should be £10.00 That is a pretty good deal. The Council would like a picture from the course and a couple of comments from people attending to publicize road safety for motorcyclists in the local press. 12 peeps max for the day.

I am trying to get the course booked for 30th May at the Ambulance Station, Sowton Industrial estate, just off the M5, Exeter. Nothing concrete yet but I should have the details confirmed in the next week or so.

If you're allowing border crossings from North Somerset, I'd be interested too.

If it can be booked for thr 30th please count me in!

30th May at Exeter suits me fine at this time..
Assuming the location is somewhere behind the
Service area just off the M5. Easy to find .

I'll keep an eye on this thread for updates etc..
