intermittent lazy cranking and ignition for a short while

turns up yesterday at my place and it cranks really slow then peters out to nothing.

Dash lights all on, little click from what i presume is the starter relay, headlight bright and constant on pass, battery putting out 12.7 V, tried jumping from my brand new 1150GSA battery, all the same no cranking.
CHecked from battery to starter and we have 12 odd volts.

What do the masses think? Dodgy earth? corroded wire between relay and solenoid?

arse nipping stuff.

Possibly a bad connection somewhere? Probably an earth. When you jumped it, did you connect the 1150 earth lead to the 1200 battery earth terminal?

If you did, then maybe try connecting the donor battery earth to the frame/engine near to the starter motor.

no i took my battery out and took it to the bike to allow us to do other things (with it being slightly less agricultural than the 1150 :) we jumped first and then to be sure then did the swap battery thing
yes we went terminal to terminal direct

Checked ebay for any local for sale? Contact and see if you can collect and pay? Just an idea

yes thanks - motorworks have them in (bosch replacement)!

just been on phone, top people :thumb2
shut tomorrow but there is a workaround...

these part numbers are scary... 1241769....

anyone local to durham still?

if its like the 1200 you can whip off the starter motor back end complete with brushes and armature. For the sake of two long but small hex headed bolts and the terminal wire, it might only need some internal cleaning up.

Motorworks are at Holmfirth, West Yorkshire HD9 4AT Are they on your route to the ferry?

no sadly our ferry is newcastle

BUT SEE OTHER THREAD - TREV IS SORTED NOW

off we go on holiday tonorrow

thanks again to all who have helped - top job all!
