feel free to criticise this one I'm bidding on

80RT mono great bike, handle brilliantly but no good for Tosser size.[over 16 stone]:(
You need the 1000cc version :thumb2

Single shock is the better handling of the RT's ( I had two, back to back - bit like my women :augie ) and has a smoother engine than the 100 version.

Horses for courses..earlier twin shock IMHO is better made but this R80RT won't let you down :thumb2

Thats not a lot of money for a half decent bike. Lots will say the 100 is much better but although they do have more grunt the 80 goes pretty well, I rode them for a few years when still in the Fuzz. they were well hammered and loads of fun. Much smoother than the 100. I suppose I was a bit under 16 stone then though. Mind you I took my 80g/s out last week and she dont half go well, the engine is a peach.:rob

Reasonable looking bike for the money and should serve you well if you are just picking it up because it's there. If you actually want an old RT you are much better to go for the late model twin shock, lightened flywheel, electronic ignition etc. The only thing you will need to do is junk the Nivomats. Great when they were new, but shocking when they start to go and expensive to fix if memory serves. S+W air shocks or Koni Dial-a-Rides (are they still available) certainly were the way to go. Fork brace and decent rubber and away you go. A touring machine to go and last forever.

I had an R80 with the S fairing. It handled and went ok but overtaking had to be erm...well planned. Handling was ok IMHO but could get exciting very quickly just when you didn't need it to be. My main concern with the RT version is that fairing. It's too good, especially when wrapped round a modest motor it would be very easy for the un mechanically sympathetic operator to cane the poor thing to death! You could slip a siebenrock conversion on it and change the final drive if the rest of it was in good condition and you got it for the right price. If it was my cash I'd look around for the 100 version for a bit more cash and get what you really want. Or....just stop faffing around and buy a decent 100gs (or G/S).
