Not quite as far but we went Plymouth ferry to Santander, ride to Barcelona, ferry to Rome (Civitavecchia), ride to Salerno, then rode home. Worked well, covering distance while asleep.
That sounds like an awesome trip, and you’ve given me food for thought for my planning, thank you. Just to give me a nudge, which ferry company did you use from Spain to Italy, and what was the duration of the sailing?

I have cut this post from a thread about launderettes in Italy.

PS The duration of the sailings will no doubt be shown on the ferry companies’ websites.

Sorry but I can't remember the name off hand, but I do recall there was plenty of choice; all booked on-line before leaving the UK. The ferry itself was mostly empty and a little 'tired', but fine for the overnight trip. As an added bonus we stayed in a very chic boutique hotel* on La Rambla about 400m from the departure point, mainly because it had a secure underground car-park.
A quick google gets you Go-ferry or Net ferry for booking; can't recall which we used but it was very straightforward.
In truth our trip was inspired by one undertaken by Aiden (Aiden1150) & Mandy who used ferries all around the Med andtheir ride report is well worth a read.

We met a very well travelled Irish / Canadian travelling around on an old Transalp in Greece in May 2023. Anyway he’d travelled Barcelona to the west coast of Italy (Citavecchia??) a week or two or three earlier. He reckoned it was stonking value (circa €100?? Maybe less but I can’t remember) although he did sleep on the floor and took his own food. He said the boat was fine but after chatting to him about his travels I suspect his view of fine and other people’s view of fine may vary.

Anyway I’ve been looking into it since so it’s on my radar for a future trip. Just book via direct ferries or a.n.other ferry booking service or rock up at the port and buy a ticket there.
