Hi all,

Am going to France in August with two of my little cherubs:eek

I've been looking at ferry prices and the Celtic links ferry is coming in €200 cheaper than the others.

Has anyone been on it?! Is it a sh*te ferry or a bargain:nenau

Bearing in mind the 2 cherubs are 13 and 14, it'd be nice for them to have some entertainment on board and the Celtic links ferry site only speaks of bars and restaraunts:nenau

Cheers guys:thumb

did use it last september one way rosslaire to cherbourg. the ferry is very clean and doesn't vibrate like others. It's a bit on the slow side as by the time you get out of it you want to eat lunch .....and talking about food ????? bring your own because it's very bland and boring but there's always:beer:

:D enjoy france

Don't forget Knutt travel

Hi Mide
If you consider the boat trip as part of the holiday than I would go with Irish ferries. While Celtic will get you there and I found nothing wrong with them, Irish ferries have more for the kids to do e.g. kids disco ect. Saying this I think Celtic were due to get a new ship this year so you may want to check that out. What part of France are you going to?

What about brittany ferrys? Ive just booked them for Car and kids. Very reasonable, no idea what boat is like tho.

I presume you are going via Rosslare because you are situated in Dublin ?
As just mentioned, Brittany Ferries are excellent but only sail via Cork
to Roscoff. The boat, the Pont Aven, is spotless and of high quality.
I haven't used Celtic Ferries but I found Brittany Ferries of a higher
standard than that of Irish Ferries.

Used Celtic ferries a few years ago and found it excellent, its slower than the other ferries and is/was geared more towards truckers, hence the food was very good which was included at the time I travelled :thumb2
I would have no hesitation using them again.

Thanks guys:thumb

To be honest it's not my intention to stay in France for long, the plan is for the kids to do a bit of research and compile a list of places they want to vist in Europe, then we'll do a rough plan of a route:bounce1

Then we'll throw the tent in the boot and when we get to the continent follow the route.......or not:)

I've just measured the distance from home to Rosslare and from Cherbourg to Dunkerque(410 miles) versus Holyhead to Dover(350 miles) :nenau

So maybe we'll go through Uk:nenau

First place we'll be heading for will be Cologne to Svenja's:roll

It's gonna be great!!!!:bounce1:roll:D

i have used the cork to roscoff ferry many times but only on bike so cant confirm prices but can highly recomend the ferry the pont aven
being a truck driver i have used the celtic link ferry many times also but theres very little to do on it though for kids
enjoy holidays

Hi Mide Nora and myself used Celtic Link last easter and we thought it was great, not as plush as Britany Ferrys but high standard all around, well maybe food was only O.K.The few Euros you save will go a long way on the continent, for instance in one of those Carre Fore supermarkets.
Anyway enjoy the trip:thumb

Celtic link good

I have used both in the last year , and the Celtic link is the most modern on that crossing and the deals are good , the only question is children ?
But in August you are at the highest fare level , still cheaper than Ireland uk and uk France ....

If you are heading to Germany then I think you would be better off going
via the UK as it will be quicker to get there. The Euro Tunnel is pretty
cheap and takes only 35 mins from Folkestone to Calais. Plus there is a
crossing around every 30 or 40 mins.
Folkestone is 333 miles from Fishguard and around a 5 1/2 hour drive.
I have went from Cork to Calais in the same day by using that route.

I used this ferry too and it's the best I have come across ever..

Website looks good! If the Campbeltown Ferry was still running I would be awkward enough to go to NI and travel down into Eire and go to France via that route to avoid that other country...
