Looking to do a weekend in France (Tomorrow)

Is is OK to "just turn up" at ferry port and buy a ticket?
or is it cheaper / easier to book online?
Also, what is the cheapest company?

Any one who can help??

i just booked ferry Dover to Calais today for £42.50 return, not sure what it is if you just rock-up and buy a ticket.
