What's the situation in 2008 for ferries to Iceland with the bike, I know there were a few changes rumoured but can anyone advise.
Also best/cheapest time to go etc etc?

Ta.

Ísland Ferjunní?

Smýril Line er ekki gott fyrir ferð tíl ísland miðja Mai!

My Íslandrover friends have just informed me that the Smyril Line Ferry mv Nörrona will only be calling at Scrabster, Scotland in high season and not calling at Lerwick, Shetland at all!

This makes early(mid May) cheap and spectacular sailings to Iceland nearly impossible and the return leg even in summer very complicated!

I have Icelandic friends from Eskifjorður(East Iceland) arriving here in a couple of days and they will drive 700km to Rékjavik on very icy roads then fly to Glasgow where I will meet them. Hopefully they will have a lot to say about the ferry connection to Europe which is very important to East Iceland and in particular Seyðisfjorður which hasn't got much else!!

I was intending to take either the bike and/or the Landrover this May but it looks like i'll be flying again and hire a Rav 4..........!!!

Thanks for the reply although it doesn't sound very promising does it.
If you hear of any developments, I'd very much appreciate hearing of them:thumb2

Get a few people together and fill a van with a few bikes, ship the van with a driver and co pilot and the rest fly, seems to work in the other direction OK:nenau

A good idea but not really my kind of thing:) I really want to get there by myself with the bike.

Nörrona in a wee bit of bother again!

The Smyril Line ferry to Iceland/Faroes had to make emergency repairs in Shetland yesterday after a 'rough' crossing..........! It was on the Scottish News!

After speaking to my Icelandic friends who visited us yesterday they agree that the return ferry to scotland from seyðisfjorður is 'far' from ideal and can only 'suggest' that I leave my HP2 with them in Eskifjorður for 'safe keeping'!!

Also their latest gem of advice is.........How do you find your way out of an Icelandic forrest when you get lost?................Easy, just stand up!!:D

Was in Orkney with the bike in September and yes, Scrabster is supposed to be the port for next year's sailings. I've been thinking about Iceland myself for next July.

I agree Tim, that it's nicer to ride the bike there, although it would be quite a long slog up from Wales. The last 200 miles would be worth it though if you get the weather.:thumb

Am I right in thinking that the boat might come back via Bergen?

Iceland Ferry

Might be talking out of turn, but my understanding is that it will be sailing from Scrabster, direct to Seyisfjodur, Iceland. But getting back is gonna be a bit long winded, because i think you will have to go to Faroes, (which is worth a visit, just pray for sunshine.) then it heads to Denmark, then back to Scrabster.

This year we spent 3 days in the Faroes on top of our Iceland trip, then sailed back to Scrabster, so the new route could add extra days to the return sailing.

I paid £200 for a couchette, bike & me this year, a couple of mates of mine, paid about 80% more for a cabin i think.

Email Smyril or ring them, they where very helpful and speak really good english, i always prefer to talk as opposed to email

The ferry would be the last of my worries....

Being able to afford to eat would be top of my list!!!!!!!!

Went earlier this year, nothing can prepare you for the cost of food and drink.

Beautiful place to visit though:thumb

Good luck
