I've just been on the Brittany ferries web site to sort some prices for a crossing in June 2016 to Santander. The site said the crossing was full - no bike spaces left. So I rang them. They confirmed all bike spaces had been sold on that crossing. There are cabins and car spaces - no bikes. This was for a Friday sailing in June next year. WTF?

Amazing, a ferry that has filled all its motorbike spaces, just like the Eurotunnel sometimes does.

Motorbikes, which have two wheels (and a often ridden by bods who think they have God like status) are a nuisance to most conveyors, as they have an annoying habit of falling over and are slow to load and discharge. Cars and lorries with four wheels (or more) on each corner are way better.

travelled on their service last month. one of our party was forced onto a different crossing because ours was full for bikes. in reality there were very few on board and there was stacks of room :nenau

When we booked last years trip, the ferry was fully booked almost nine months in advance. They told me that people book more and more in advance just in case and they cancel later on as the cancellation fee is just £25?

Some ferries now work on a set no of bike places as opposed to get them in along a bulkhead where they can.

I was caught out like this on the Mallaig to Skye, now with only 11 bike spaces. Thankfully the Newcastle to Amsterdam still just crams them in.

If i had planned a trip, booked and paid for the ferry, there is no way i'd go quietly!
"Full for Bikes"? ~ fuck 'em! their problem not mine.

Got me a decent outward ferry though;)

It was weird, BF said no bike space on your ferry and in the end it worked out a better sailing time for me, going a day earlier and having a night in the Picos

Did this crossing in June a couple of years ago, the bike bookings were full by December. Facilities for bikes were good though, but it was a last in first out tightly packed area.

Not booked and paid for. JB dithered and booked after the rest of us. As it turned out it worked out better for him.
There was no way that our boat was full for bikes though.

Avoid Aragon, Spain, May 12-15 2016. Harley Davidson Super Rally. expecting 15000.
so ferries will be fully booked. lots of my mates have already booked.

Colin - that's the sort of answer I was expecting for June - there is a meeting / race on - that's why its full. I'm disappointed its full, this far in advance, just because they have reduced the number of bike spaces.

Booked

Going to Santander on the Pont Avant (Brit ferries) next July, booked last month, great crossing but as said...£25 deposit :thumb2

Guess riders just book it at that price

It was ok on the way out wasn't it?

Yes the boarding on the "Happy Shopper" was quite efficient, in contrast to the return sailing on the Pont Aven where chaos reigned, almost worth it for the nicer ship though :beerjug:
