Ferry to Santander Full??

I've just been on the Brittany ferries web site to sort some prices for a crossing in June 2016 to Santander. The site said the crossing was full - no bike spaces left. So I rang them. They confirmed all bike spaces had been sold on that crossing. There are cabins and car spaces - no bikes. This was for a Friday sailing in June next year. WTF?

for the various reasons mentioned the boats fill up , if you have to travel on those dates have you considered the Bilbao ferry ?

Sorry if this stating the obvious but did you try other dates? I booked up about a month ago. Last
weekend of june was already full so booked on for the following week instead. Very limited places on these crossings unfortunately.

Take a van with three bikes in and it should work out cheaper than three bikes and riders....

Jump on a ferry to France and wellie it down, great fun

+1, last time I did the trip, it was cheaper (channel crossing+fuel+food+1night accom), and it was quicker, cant imagine getting taking the long ferry now.

MMmmm...alternative!

I know the ferry saves on wear and tear on the bike...but for the cost that Brittany ferries charge Id much rather do what we normally do, ....Dover-Calais and ride down, even with the ferry, overnight Hotel, fuel and tolls it can still work out cheaper than Portsmouth-Santander/Bilbao...so not all hope is lost.
Will be doing this journey in June, safe riding everyone

I booked yesterday for June 4th, ports - caen crossing £75 - avoiding tolls-m/ways ride down to Spain as there's still plenty of good rds to be had on route, staying in the Pyrenees then across into the picos for the last 3 days staying at a parador Hotel, booked the return for Monday 13th from santan to ports arriving back on tues 14th cost £149 each with a cabin (2 sharing)

Wow, that's cheap. I just booked one way Ports to Sant on 29th July and it cost me £334! I would have saved £55 if I was travelling with someone else but its still a lot more than your £149 each.

Anyone looking to travel the same day and want to share the (twin) cabin with me? It has a window :D and will save us both £55 (which will pay for the food and beers on board).

Your not good with the maths, it is costing each couple £296 which is more than the £ 279 it would have cost you with a partner

If I was taking a pillion it would have cost us £364 (it seems they only charge an extra £30 for a second passenger without a bike).

If a mate was joining me on another bike the price would have been £558 (£279 each and £55 cheaper for me)

Either way it is more expensive than £298.

You have opted for a posh window cabin and that's additional £130 where our internal rabbit hutch is £80'ish saving 50 notes .

My booking was for 2 bods and 2 bikes.

Avoid Aragon, Spain, May 12-15 2016. Harley Davidson Super Rally. expecting 15000.
so ferries will be fully booked. lots of my mates have already booked.

That's bloomin' handy that I had the foresight to arrange my HISS Aragon off-road event for the week beginning May 23rd then!

its believable

Well, as everyone else has said, there are only a finite number of "special" bike spaces.
However, when the crossings are not full on the car decks, they still don't book extra bikes... whereas on some other ferries on other routes they do squeeze extra bikes on.

Certain dates like Spanish Moto GP, pamplona bull run etc etc will get booked up many months in advance.

If you are not that fussed about dates, or routes, then a bit of flexibility will get you on board.

I don't think its cheaper to take the ferry, but its a great way to relax, have a few beers and watch the world (sea at least) go by. A nice way to start the holiday.

Good luck ! I'm booked for June on the way out and July on the way back ...

struggle

have booked on brittany ferries 3rd week in may for a 3 week tour of portugal(and a bit of spain), with my best mate...heading down to villamoura to pick up the wife after she has been on the sauce with the girls!!!

Must admit, it was a ballache finding a return ferry...so much that the original two week trip has now grown to three...thats what i told the wife:green gri:green gri

Many times the crossing was sold out..which like other people on here has said its a farce when us bikers dont take up much room...only at the bar!!

If that's the 21st of May you'll meet a few of 'my' bikers on their way to the HISS and by the time they stop talking about if you'll wish you were coming along too - Portugal indeed! :)

Managed to get Portsmouth to Santader 27th August, return 3rd Sept, economy sea cabin outgoing and cruise sea cabin return.

Expensive because we booked 2 double cabins, 2 bikes. I like a room to myself because I don't like the idea of sharing with another smelly biker - it also means that my options are kept open to squeeze in a small lady pillion if the situation arose :)
