So we have now booked the ferries for our 2027 tour to Sardinia.
1. Toulon to Port Torres. Luxe cabin with wifi. Journey of 18 hours. Corsica Ferries.
2. Sardinia to Italy. Luxe cabin with wifi. Journey of 12 hours. Corsica Ferries.
3. Rotterdam to Hull. Standard outside cabin. Journey of 9 hours. P and O.

Done a little bit of math and the 2 Corsica Ferries works out at £15.16 per hour on board. P and O £36.88 per hour.

Would certainly be good if P and O had some competition I think.

Much like the Portsmouth ferries some perceive as expensive, if there was a huge margin in those crossings there would be competition.
It's not about distance alone but volume. Fewer Irish trucks are using the crossings via a UK land bridge so the private traveller has to pay more to keep the service running. Hence we see Brittany Ferries end Poole and Le Havre services and move some ferries to Rosslare routes into France & Spain.

Got me thinking… Spain ferry next year to from Portsmouth return, roughly 54 hours, sharing a 4 berth inside cabin with my son, £550 each…..which seemed like a chunk…..just over £10 an hour.

I was looking at booking the Portsmouth to Caen return boat for the May half term in 27… night boat out, cabin, two people one motorcycle - 1600 return, no cabin… will sit in the corner…. £610……

My thoughts…..FFS

We went Barcelona to Porto Torres last year. Grimaldi lines. Early May, return 2 weeks later. I can’t remember the exact price but the return was about half the Plymouth/santander return cost. Similar cabin. Food n booze on the Grimaldi boat was at best ok yet similar price to Brittany Ferries.

Half term, you say?
Umbrellas on a rainy day……

The Hull-Rotterdam ferry certainly isn’t cheap but the proximity of it to home is a major plus for me.
I last used it in September and when I was booking it the initial cost for the 7.4m motorhome, two passengers, upgraded cabin and meals package return was around £1100. I thought this expensive so tried a new booking using Blue Light Card. P&O don’t accept BLC on ferries only cruises. I tried again to book just 20 minutes later and the price had come down to around £800. It would appear there is dynamic pricing on this ferry.

I think the issue with Brittany Ferries is the same aswell...no real competition on those routes.

We are taking the car to Brittany. Out Portsmouth - Caen. Back St Malo - Portsmouth. Day crossings in May. £342. I think thats reasonable.

Yes thats not bad at all. My issue is just that P and O, and Brittany Ferries to be fair...just dont have any competition on those routes...and therefore can charge fairly high prices....compared to their European counterparts.
