Hi all

Well, nearly a month into GSA ownership now, absolutely loving the thing! But a few little questions have popped up...

Starting on cold mornings - I've noticed, this past few mornings, that it can be a little sluggish compared to normal cranking it over & starting. Nothing major I think, but the battery light and warning light now stays on for about 3 to 5 seconds after it does fire up, used to be about 1 second... I'm not worried, just wondering if this is ok.

Also when the engine is cold, I can hear (what I think) is a bit of pre-ignition going on, a slight knock of sorts during acceleration. Also, while the engine is cold, every know and then, it sounds a bit tappy on the RH side, and sometimes a bit tappy/knocky (like pinking sound?) from the middle of the engine for a few seconds. Once its warmed up though, its fine except the occasional tapping from the RH side.

Maybe I'm just being a bit of a faff and worrying over nothing, as I've never had any experience with the boxters till now, and with the amount the bike cost I'm even more paranoid lol!

Cheers :)

They are hard on batteries in the winter. Cold weather reduces the batteries output plus cold oil makes things worse. Then finally 600cc pots plus a small battery makes things worse.

Unless you're putting decent daily mileage on I'd recommend an optimate.

Leaving the bike on it's centre stand can help with the RHS knocking.

Don't know about the pinking on acceleration though. I just know the high idle can be a right pain on deceleration until the engine has warmed.

Just don't take it out in the salt :D

PaulW, thats a familiar name, not same as per another forum is it? ;)

Mine takes few seconds to crank, but battery light goes out straight away. Maybe 2010 model is different?

Mine (34k miles) tappets bit when stone cold and it not been run in a while, but its fine once its warm.

Oil level ok? They do use a bit when new...

Sounds just like mine :D

Yeah oil level is bang on half way up the glass, which reading on here seems to be the "settle" point. But will start putting it up on the center stand overnight now, so far since I've had it, I've only been able to leave it on the side stand due to there not being enough room to faff about and put it up :( The RH tapping is pretty constant too (noticed today) even after getting up to temp now... Hopefully that will settle down...

Bike is also my only form of transport, so it's ridden every day. And as for the salt, it's already been out in it lol

Oh, and tunnie, yes, it is I ::hide

**edit**

Another thing... I take it, the headers glowing a bit is normal?? Given they are single skin and all that... Just noticed it when stuck in traffic earlier as it was getting dark

Yes, they'll glow if you're stood still for some time.

Facing same situation now with first cold days, but last winter there was no major problems with ignition. Just slower, and battery indicator on for 5 seconds after ignition.
