and this as well...
I'm trying to move some files from my Mac to my PC.
I have connected the Mac to the internet and am in the process of attaching the files to my G-mail and sending them to myself.
The PDF files have transferred across no problem, but the Word files (which are the most important ones and the vast majority of what I need to transfer) are not working.
When I open them on the PC they are just gobbedegook.

Can anyone help me please?

you do have office on the pc i take it? obvious, but had to be asked :comfort

maybe the mac word files were created on a newer version of office than the pc has installed?

MS office is a pain with it's different versions, therefore

Ignore MS office and get a copy of Open Office. I've found, so far, it opens everything usually associated with MS.:thumb2

+1 and its my favourite price free:thumb:thumb

+1 with Open Office. If you can put it onto your Mac it will allow you to open any MS file and convert it to either PDF or Open Office format. Really easy to use. You can even open a file and then export it as PDF directly from OO.

Most people are trying to get away from MS on PC's:nenau

Can you convert the Word files on the Mac to PDF and send them that way? Alternatively, try saving them as rtf files and send them. You will lose most of your formatting but at least they are likely to be decipherable.

Can you get ZIP for Mac? - ZIP them and then email, maybe Google is faffing about with the .DOC file trying to inject adverts ;)

See if you can install "PDF995". (Google it) It will allow you to convert your files to pdf format. It installs as a virtual printer and lets you e-mail the pdf's

It's free but I don't know if it works for Mac.

Thanks Packer, PDF995 is Windows only but it has led me to PrintToPDF which seems to be much the same sort of thing but for Mac OS9 which is what mine is running.
I'll have a go and see how that pans out. :thumb2

Any news on the Tossers' Tipple? :ChrisKelly

GMail?

If you have a gmail account, (if not, create one), you can save them to your Google Docs... then you can get at them from anywhere AND they should be safe for future HW changes as long as you keep the account:)

Fileformatsconverter.exe , free download from Microsoft might help. I used it when I could not open documents in Word 2003 that were created in Word 2007 :nenau
