Hi all. I've recently picked up a 2006 1200gs, registered in August 2006, seems to have the 2nd abs system on it with just the 4 pipes into the top.
I bought it as is and the front and rear brake switches have been removed, shows a brake failure and rear brake light stuck on. I have found the front brake switch wiring and linked it out,
However I cannot find where the rear brake switch would plug into the loom and have searched all over it for ages! Can only see 1 plug that's disconnected on the left side of the airbox, but has the silver clip similar to an injector plug.
My thoughts are the rear brake circuit is open causing the brake light to be on and possibly the brake error.
Does anyone know where the rear switch loom plugs in please? Would be of great help.
Thanks.

I ay be wrong here but I thought the GS/GSA didn't have brake light switches. All worked by voodoo somehow. 🫣
Pressure from the abs system activated the brake lights. .
From what I recall only models without abs had a switch.

That’s certainly true for the 2009- models, I don’t know about the earlier ones.

Thanks all, 23rd sept 2006 is the manufacture date. It has the front brake switch wiring which the previous owner chopped and removed the switch also, have found that cable toed to the ECU, was told he removed the rear too but I cannot locate where it would plug in and the brake light is stuck on with the brake fault showing too.
just want to link them out to see if it cures it or not. I had an earlier one a few hrs ago and did the abs delete on that easily enough but this one has a smaller abs unit and the text in the dash is the later one if you understand me.

Im wondering if that's the case now to be honest! Have found the front switch wiring and it looks like someone has been trying to link it out (plug chopped off and bullet crimps fitted) just wondering how I can find out 100%

Looking at real, with your data, your bike would be one of the first to have the ABS 2 unit

Which is good ;)

There is an electrical switch to the rear foor brake, it is located on the frame, i cant say where lol, as my bloody cd is corrupty, and it wont load the pictures arghhhh

So the ABS block unit has no reservoirs ??

The rear brake switch shows the same switch as mine and its in and around on the frame tubes where the rear shock fixes

@Santa-2512 Do you possibly have the wire colours handy ?

Yes the abs unit has no reservoirs just the 4 pipes coming out of the top. It's smaller than one I changed on an earlier GS when I did the abs delete on that.

Thanks DrFarkoff, have found the plug which is plugged into the wiring for the front brake switch I've mentioned.
Im thinking it may never of had a rear brake switch at all as it doesn't have any mounting holes etc either and maybe the brake light just worked off the front perhaps? Also wondering why when I link the front switch wiring out the brake light is stuck on, also when not connected too.
Apologies I'm a bit stuck here, just want to fix this then do everything else to get the old girl on the road and enjoy it.
Thanks for your help.

The battery has gone flat overnight too, has a new one on it and was running the bike on Saturday. Could it be an indication of a bad abs unit?

The servo versions were "always made" switches you pulled the lever /pushed pedal to break the connection and the ECU saw the break and powered the brake light

I think that these switches are too, so that the Body control and ABS systems can see the Switches in a self check and pass the system for use

So bridge the front brake connector and the light should go out etc etc etc

Nice one thanks, my charger doesn't like it. Guess it's a duff one.
Will get a new battery and link the switch out and go from there.
Can the abs unit I have be bypassed like the earlier one if it's faulty?

Have bridged the front brake connector and still the same, brake light is firmly on. The wire colours are red/green and brown. Bit stuck now!

Hold the bus

Take the Brake lens off and check that no DONKEY has inserted the bulb back to front, wrong bulb or rewired the connector incorrectly

Done that and all good. Bulb holder in good condition, only allows the bulb in 1 way. Has 12v to each side of the bulb.
Interestingly I have a lamp warning on the dash without the engine running yet all seem to work ok.
Something is giving the pos supply to the rear light though.

Without the engine running ??

But with Engine running ??? It goes out ? #SelfCheck

No it stays on all the time. Checked all the lamps and they seem to be working, indicators etc. Just the brake light is permanently stuck on.
Appreciate you taking the time to advise.definately a head scratcher!
