I tend to hold back on filtering, mainly due to a lack of confidance, particually on the A31 wimborne bypass, as in general despite the width of the road car drivers tend to keep to the middle of the road and with oncomming traffic heading in the other direction at upto 60 mph I'm happy to pratice slow speed control in the line of traffic.
So on friday I was confronted with about 2 miles of almost stand still traffic heading to poole/ringwood, I pulled out to the middle of the road and started filtering slowly, say 25 mph. Ahead after a short distance, a vehicle recovery truck was loading a car on the opposite side of the road so I wobbled into a space in the line of traffic to provide space for cars coming in the other direction to overtake the obstruction. A few seconds later, a police bike swooped in beside me, stopped, and the rider said" follow me son Ill get you through this in no time". A bit taken back, I thanked the officer, he swooped off again and I followed the red sea was parted here in Dorset for a short while, well, ok the A31 for about a mile and a half.
So, if you are reading this Mr traffic police officer, thank you
