What kind of riding has been done in the last 10k miles? Motorway, with luggage, pillion, green laneing, only road use etc etc?

Mainly back country lanes and A-roads to connect them up (Yorkshire Dales, North York Moors, Wild Atlantic Way earlier this year). Very little motorway. No green lanes (actually, I tell a lie - I did Rutland Rig once).

Normally it's just me. A couple of camping trips carrying an extra 20-30 kg max.

I've bought and fitted genuine replacement pins from BMW (did both sides, not taking any chances). I spoke to the head mechanic (older chap) - never seen one of these snap before. He reckoned there must be something else wrong to have caused it. The bike is back up and running - there is nothing to suggest that anything is amiss anywhere else. The final drive was fully rebuilt by Mikey about a year or so ago. Draft shaft is in good order.

Not sure what could have caused it other than fatigue or a manufacturing defect.
