Anyone seen this happen before?

1150GSA, Heavily loaded, 2Up, back wheel got its jiggy on at about 60 and started chewing through the ABS sensor with the ring...

Just wondering if that amount of movement was normal for a bearing collapsing?

Cheers

The sound like total collapse

Agree with that. Presumably accompanied by a big oil drop. Had it happen on an R1100S once. Lots of the ball bearings will have ejected and resulted in a fair amount of 'play' that will let the ring touch the sensor. Depends on how many bearings have gone and how the remaining ones are distributed around the bearing as to how much play you'll get

Got it booked in for service and MOT on friday so the guy is collecting and doing the repair at the same time, just hoping it is only the bearing that is damaged and that there will be no nasty surprises. ABS sensors are so bloody expensive!

Just check wheel nuts not loose
That way wheel wobble and damage sensor and tread

Check the sensor if only plastic scratched no metal showing should be ok just smooth it with sandpaper and then adjust spacers accordingly.

Thanks, yeah I had thought that, I'll have a gander before Roy picks it up. Was making some pretty horrible grinding noises but it had to be moved along the road to a camp site when it happened so might be toast!

So there is metal showing, looks like maybe a tiny fraction of metal was taken off. Toast?

The abs was still functional before I loaded it to the trailer, i.e. There were no warning lights staying on...
