At 21,600km, the final drive has failed on my 12GS!

There was no indication whilst riding, other than a slight clicking sound emanating from the rear - intermittently - when doing left hand turns. Of course, not being mechanically minded, I didn't give it too much thought. D'oh!

Mentioned it to the mechanic when in for its 20,000km service yesterday, and was told a while later that I was not even permitted to ride it home - the bearings were so bad!

I've been told today that there is a new diff available in Oz, and that I should have the bike back in "a couple of days". I won't hold my breath though.

Apart from this, it has been wonderful lately, now that it's loosened up a bit. Fuel consumption is getting better all the time. Currently getting over 420km per tank, even when doing over 120km of hard, fast cornering at highly illegal speeds.:D :D

eek - I've got an early bike:confused:

Wasn't there a recall on the bikes that had the defective parts installed though??

Margaret, I take it the R100 is getting a workout then?

Was the service in Tassie or Vic?

Yours is the third definite bevel drive failure in Oz I know of on the 1200GS.

Officially though, there has only been one failure that they will admit too.

Mick.
