Final drive & Gearbox oil

Just wundering what the current thinking is on oil types for the final drive and gearbox oil,Castrol SAF XO has been mentioned but so has SAE 75W140,is the same oil used in both ?.
 
Use the same oil in both, I used the XO, it's expensive but then again you only change it every 2 years
You only need a 75w-90 which is what the XO is for non limited slipdiff
 
Thanks was thinking along those lines but the local motor factors never heard of SAF XO will look again for the 75W90

The understanding I have from my dealer is that the 75/140 synthetic can be used in both the tranny and the final drive on most oilheads. However, on the final drives (and only the final drives) of the hollow axle variety (e.g. R1200GS, K1200S, etc.), the Castrol SAF-XO must be used.
