Had a mooch around and realised that BNM Service at 6K did not include a Final Drive Oil change... :eek .......thinks to hiself ....whats that about..!

Did it today along with the Gibbo` Oil and would say to all......do it..!

Olive in Gibbo was sound but the Final Drive said a big thank you i`m sure... :thumb

Do it at Six don`t wait any longer IMHO.........BB

My manual says 12,000 or at least every 2 years - but I do it annually, it costs next to nowt and takes almost no time and effort. Not sure you need go a far as 6K unless you have the back in the water much, but can't harm I guess.

When you do, if the oil is not golden yellow or there is any sign of metal, strip the unit.
I didn't do this and 2000 miles later the seal was pushed out by a broken up bearing cage.
I had just done a 1500 mile ride round Wales finishing with a high speed dash along local bypass.
Having a rear wheel covered in oil is not a laugh, having a final drive lock solid would be terminal.

Steptoe told me to make sure it's changed at half the recommended service intervals, that's 6,000 miles in my book. And you don't argue with Steptoe :thumb

The final drive only holds about two quids worth of oil so its worth changing every 2-3,000 miles or whenever you can. That way it should aways come out as clean as it went in. :D

or there is any sign of metal,

Just done mine - is the pile of black 'powder' on the magnetic drain plug normal?
