Hi everyone,
I,d be most grateful if anyone could help me out,i,m in the process of changing the final drive oil on my 1200 gs,and i,m having problems sourcing some oil, which i believe should be 75/140 fully synthetic gear oil,i live in east yorkshire and i don,t mind travelling a few miles to get some as i would like to get the job finished asap.Anyone know of anywhere i could buy some over the counter, i,ve tried my local bmw dealer but he says he doesn,t sell the final drive oil, seems a bit odd to me, but there it is.
anyway, any advice would be most appreciated,
andy(billabong)

Hi any fully syn GL5 75/90 gear oil 250ml required ,available from Morris lubricants etc

NO NO NO!!! ................. It's Castrol SAF-XO - ONLY

The capacity is 220ml and the FD is filled via the speed sensor hole.

Available mail order from Opie oils - excellent service and discount with UKGSer

Ive been running mine on BP 80/90 fully synthetic hypoid gear oil, change it every 6000miles when I service the bike. Runs sweet as sweet thing. (also use it in the gearbox). I think any suitable gear oil of GL5 is just fine. The oil that I use is the same final drive oil as used on most rail stock. If its good enough for a train its good enough for an agricultural B*W.

Just my 2p worth

Steve

Just out of interest, Castrol SAF-XO is specified as a heavy duty truck differential oil. It just happens to meet what BMW specify as a suitable oil for the job.

thanks everyone

thanks for the advice everyone,
managed to buy some saf xo from opie oils, bit expensive but at least you get 4 oil changes per litre bottle,
regards
