My beloved 1150GS is now at 30k on the clock and wondering if I should as a precaution get the final drive bearings done. Have had a few fellow GS warn me, the final drive is probably due to die.

Is it a wise precaution to have them done as its on 29,900 approx miles?

Leave it alone.

As long as there's no play, just change the FD oil and leave it:thumb2

(but get a bearing, seal and o ring in just in case , then you've got them and an hour after it goes, you'll be back on the road anyway )

Leave it - the new one could go quicker than the one you've got in the bevel at the moment.

This fellow GSer who warned you. Does he read the internet a lot ? is he a pessimist or a happy go lucky chap:D

GS Final drive bearing

My 1150GSA has 83,700km on it, should I do mine three times as I missed doing it at 30K ?:augie

Like the man said, " If it aint broke - dont fix it !"

where is the best place to get the bearing and seal apart from motorad dealer i simply dont trust the fekirs had a few fcuk ups with them already apart from that they charge me £47.00 for rear brake pads

You'll probably find (perhaps surprisingly) that a main dealer is cheaper for the bearing and seal. However if you don't want to give them your money then Motorworks / Sherlocks etc all sell them.

Or you could come across them on ebay and buy them for £20 the pair like I did :D

But if it does break it can wreck the complete final drive and your trip.

10 years of various GS1150 ownership with rear wheel bearing changes 'every so often' has resulted, perhaps, in never having a problem:nenau

I also agree with the 'if it ain't broke philosophy but not regarding rear wheel bearings unless the new ones not fitted correctly:aidan
