Sorry to ask a slightly numpty question, but no 'shops/specialists' open today to ask...

Is a FD unit with ABS wiring compatible with a non-ABS bike? I suspect that the FDs will be common and the non-ABS models just fitted with a blanking plug, but would just like to make sure before laying out a few hundred quid....

No blanking plugs are used, they both have the same "hole" used for the speedo/abs sensor.
I think the difference between FD units is to do with the inner FD speedo/abs sensor ring.

I don't imagine there is any difference in the drives, other than year. If engine is running on stand and in gear the speedo will work. Therefore the signal generated by the notches on the rear of the crownwheel must be utilised by both systems, abs and speedo. The absence of an ABS pump on your bike is the diffference. IMO

I did repair my own drive ABS and a mates drive no ABS and the same notches were on both crownwheels BTW

I seem to remember a few problems with issues between the model years regarding speedo problems if the incorrect FD was used. .

It was posted on ukgser so should be easy enough to find with a search.

I've no personal experience of using different years FD on other models so can't say for sure what will or won't work. Every unit i've ever changed has been with the same model year replacement unit.

I have fallen foul of model changes. The fd design was changed in 08/06 to change to a different pinion bearing and also a new ABS ring. Mechanically they are the same but the speedo will not work properly and you will have all sorts of problems with brakes. Not sure of the model changes after that, but at some stage, probably for the 2008 model change the fd gained a drain plug at the bottom of the unit. That all changed again with the twin cam having a breather.

Not sure quite how you tell prior and post 08/06 apart but be careful.the others should be easier to spot.

The FD is from the correct year - an 07. All of the numbers match, barring the K one. The one for sale has K2/1, mine has K4/2.....

Gear ratio etc all the same, as is the part number 7695344

I am no wiser.......
