Looking through a few posts it seems that BMW have updated the final drive on the R1200 series over the years. Can anyone tell me what those years are and what was updated please.

2004 to 2006 early type 30 mm pinion bearing
2006 on 32 mm pinion bearing ,larger abs sensor
Later one with breather has different inner housing and bearing running in oil,
There are a few other very slight differences around the pinion area @ 2006 I have seen 4 different variants
Basically that's it!

Patzx stripped a relatively low miles early type (30mm pinion bearing) and found it was in quite a bad way though there were no outward symptoms.
It's a major reason I went go a later bike.

So my 2007 should have the updated more robust design??

the last update was in june 2010 afaik, that's the later one mikeyboy is talking about, if you have to get it rebuilt they do this upgrade too.

my bike was a march 2010 model and had to be done 2 years ago.

BMW ireland stepped up tho' :thumby:

Mikeyboy of Overland & Classic will tell you exactly what the issue are. He rebuilt my 2008 FD when the main wheel bearing failed (as they always will eventually). I went the whole hog rather than just having a new wheel bearing fitted. I also took the chance to have the case powder coated. I now wish I'd also had the hub centre tube coated as the plating is failing in there.
