Just did mine, replaced with Castrol Syntrax Universal Plus 75W-90 fully synthetic. Noticeably smoother gearchange on my 97 R1100GS. I found Opie Oils were cheapest (but ensure you register to get a small discount) at only £12.60 a litre:

One litre will comfortably do gearbox and FD

Sent from a widget that can't spell.

No it won't.

From the factory manual:

Gearbox:
Fill quantity:
Initial filling..............................1.0 l (1.76 Imp. pints)
During oil changes ...................0.8 l (1.4 Imp. pints)

FD:
Fill quantity:
Initial filling ...........................0.25 l (0.44 Imp. pints)
During oil changes .............0.23 l (0.404 Imp. pints)

This tallies with my experience - a 1 litre bottle isn't quite enough for a gearbox + FD oil change.

If you try this one

You will never change it.

Use GL5 - not GL4/5 - I think this fooked my gearbox.
Changing the oil (drain + refill) is seldom needed due to mileage or age, but it is a good idea to check for any particles or water.
