Well, I took one out for a test ride a couple of months ago. Have been looking at the brochure ever since. Decided I had better stop thinking about it & ordered one today for March 1sr delivery. Seems it has cost me £310- more at the new price. Ordered it through Vines, Guildford, & it was a pleasent experiance, unlike when I ordered my Ducati.
Although I will only ride my bike on the road, I also booked today the BMW off road course for April 12/13 & booked a 1200GS. Thought it would be fun to see what the bike can do (and I can't !! ).
Looking forward to a mountain pass trip to Italy in July.

Welcome to the 1200 club Rod...! I'm thinking of booking the course myself seeng as I've never done any off roading.

I wrote up a report on the BMW offroad course. You'll really enjoy yourself.

You'll also get completely filthy. I highly recommend hiring their kit (jacket, trousers, boots). It's good quality BMW stuff and it'll save you major grief trying to get the ingrained mud out of your own kit.

Here's the writeup:

Maybe we`ll see you - me and some fellow low lifes will be riding along the Stelvio pass after attending the "bash" at Garmisch Partenkirchen:beerjug:

TOBERS, thanks for pointing me to your story, after looking at those pictures I'm now feeling fairly nervous!! I will definately hire their riding kit, thanks for the tip. I wonder if the 1200GS will be earier or harder than the 650's ?? Smoother, more power but heavier. Maybe I should just stick to road riding!!

Don't be worried by the pictures - the course is designed to get you to do lots of things you don't think you can do, not things that you can't do. I was astounded by what was possible when somebody who knows how to do it points the way!

Kit hire is a great move. Even my helmet needed the lining washed afterwards, consequence of an over-enthusiastic entry to a water crossing and the bow wave coming up the front of the tank.

Hardest thing to remove at the end was the grin from my face.
