Finally stopped burning oil........23500mls!!!???

Just when i thought i had a lemon, My 03 1150 adv finally uses less than 1/4 ltr of oil over more than 2000mls of hard riding but its taken 23500mls to bring it down to this level and now its finally run in i guess. I wonder if there is any other vehicle on this planet that takes as long to run in? This is the first bmw i have owned having had rice rockets before (think you just get to that age dont you ) but i have covered 17,000mls in 12 months and still loving every moment, Its an absolute joy to ride and just wish i had the nerve to take it off road Oh, one more thing, the bike is still on the original set of pads and plenty left??? But had my share of problems though ie: finnal drive bearing, brake failure (yes, you guessed, ABS) and oil leek from the black boot on finnal drive on the costas that has been done and now needs doing again (work all done by BMW???) and a new petrol tank because of rust, Oh, and of cause new ABS unit. All the work was done under warranty thank god but this bike is still something else and i love it

Sounds about right, I went through same paranoia about oily lemons, then it just stopped burning it

think you just get to that age dont you

If you knew then what you know now and could afford it would you have got a GS sooner?

My 1200 has slowed down its oil consumption after 22,000 miles, not stopped altogether but down to less than a litre between services now. Still on the first set of front brake pads too.

oil burning , my gs uses 500 mill a 1000 miles, if you take it steady in wet don't seem to burn any , dry days it seems to burn more,7000 rpm every gear. poor thing .

Ahhhhhhhh must be a blocked oilway - not long till the big end goes
