So, imagine you owned a 2011 XT1200Z and you were taking a test ride on an MT09 Tracer this week. What would you hope to be offered in part exchange?

Bike details:
Registered Jan 2011 so on a 60 plate. 19,000 miles. Full Yamaha service history with a service last October and few miles since. Good condition PR4 tyres, 12 months MOT, black. Daytona heated grips, Yamaha aluminium panniers, Givi topbox plate, otherwise standard trim with no ECU mods. 2 owners. I bought the bike with 900 miles on it - it was repossessed by Yamaha after Brands Hatch Yamaha went bust and found its way to South Wales Superbikes. SWS completed the 600 mile service at 900 miles as this had not been documented by BHY.

I love the bike and had intended to keep it for some years. A recent illness means I really notice the 260kg when wheeling the bike in/out the garage.

They'll retail it at £8k? Used values taken a dive after the new ones could be had for sub £10k - PX at £6500 -£6750 possibly... have to warn you I have no idea what I'm talking about :thumb2

+1, especially on the no idea what I am talking about part.

Would not be too surprised if they came back at £6k, I always "underwrite" a bike sale with a trade in price by first negotiating best deal assuming no PX, and then seeing what they would offer against this best price if I could not sell it.

So they offer £6k against best deal, I would advertise bike for £6800 and if nobody has offered more than say £6250 by the time I need to pickup new bike I would just chop it in - a no lose gamble (Well £25 for an e-bay classified ad)

JB was talking about getting one of these.:thumb

Maybe drop him a PM, with a good price.:augie

Trade in £5,000....

The dealer offered a lot more than that :)

There will be a proper For Sale post going up soon but I'm looking for £7k which will give a me a slight benefit compared to a part exchange and a £1000 less than what a dealer will advertise the bike for.

Get the red Tracey.......the all black one isn't very nice, but the red upper bodywork on that option sets it off nicely :beerjug:

The test bike was red and it does look nicer in the flesh as the colour is very flat in photos.

The black one isn't black - more charcoal grey. Looks okay.

The light coloured one with blue wheels is not to my taste - the dealer doesn't have a Tracer in that colour scheme but there is a standard MT09 there and it looks horrible, although the Tracer version is a bit more restrained.

The 1200 is in a different league quality-wise to the Tracer. Couldn't you just wait until your strength builds up a bit?

Perhaps I am being a bit premature and pessimistic but the reality is that a short arse with a number of chronic ailments, who can only just get his feet to the ground on a level surface, will eventually have to succumb to riding a bike that is less than 260kg in weight.

The Tracer seat is a similar distance off the ground but crucially the bike is 50kg lighter. I'd rather make the change now rather than wait until I am on a 1:3 bend in the Lake District and find a sudden stop over stretches the available resources, as I came close to this last September which was just before the acute illness put me in hospital.
