Popped the head back on my R80 this afternoon after having the wrecked exhaust thread refurbished by Richard at Moorespeed. Checking the HBoL, it says to torque the nut up to 160 Nm!

2 questions...

1. Really?
2. How?

I've just done it up hand tight and a bit with my trusty exhaust nut tool

I’ve never ever torqued a finned exhaust nut up … I just do them up tight.
I’ve tightened up hundreds over the last 38 years and never had any come undone.
And years later I’ve undone the same nuts without any problems or stripped threads.
Just use common sense,

That's what I've done, just nipped them up. I'll leave it at that.

I had my cylinder head repaired by Richie and asked him the best to make sure they don't seize and he said hand tight well lubricated threads. So for me that hand tight and just a couple of fingers on the tool to secure. I also loosen them once a year and re-lube the threads.
