Just to chew the fat so to speak what is the difference in dowload speeds between usb2 and firewire as I noticed that Sony refer to 1394 ports as firewire althouth the actual PC conector is USB.

Belated , Happy New year to you all .:beerjug: Stewart

stewart,
As a non techie my understanding is that 1394 is Firewire. In terms of speeds, I think usb2 & firewire are much the same, however, I have been told that firewire protocols manage the transmission better and is therefore faster. This may be guff info.
My Ipod spat its dummy when I connected it to usb2 on my computer (it worked fine on my sons), however works flawlessly on the soundcards firewire port. PB

Firewire is IEEE 1394 interface and is hot plug, that means you can plug it in and unplug it live, it runs at two speeds 400 Mps and a higher version at 800 Mps, the 400 Mps one is the normal speed, this is used for external HDD's, higher end scanners, DV cameras and higher end digital still cameras. Sony DV cameras lable this i Link but it is an IEEE 1394 interface.

USB 2 is a bit slower but still much faster than USB 1 and is increasingly used but is NOT hot plug, the connection has to be stopped before unplugging.

The Connectors are different and not interchangable.

Same one mate

I've got same camera very pleased with it.

Used Windows Movimaker cause its free for editing but you can't burn DVD's with it bugger!

Have read you need to down load patches for Pinnicle as there is some issues.

(see "Digital Video Made Easy" Mag last months I think)

I'd love to test your Pinnacle Software for you on my system nod nod wink wink

If you look at the software section on Amazon, you will see that a number of people have reviewed pinnacle 9 and slated it. I tried the Windows movie maker software in XP, and it locked up after five minutes. I looked at the Amazon reviews for Ulead videostudio 8, they were all very good. I downloaded a one month free trial from the Ulead site, and it was a complete doddle to use, and worked perfectly, so much so that I have now bought it. I'm a complete novice at this game, but this worked for me.

Good Luck

Cheers

Video Software

Thank you again

Mr Needlonger, I would be only to pleased to share my facilities with you, but and I guess there is always a but, as from tomrrow I will be out of action so to speak for about six weeks, if you can wait that long then we will make a plan on Pinnacle .

Thanks Jonnie, I have down loaded ulead and it is good but I just have this thing about Pinnacle, probably because I paid a bit extra to have it on the new PC and I can't master the bloody thing .

:beerjug: Stewart PS back in 6 weeks (I hope )
