Left the house at 9 oclock this morning and have not long been back in. First of all filled up with petrol at the local garage in Amble. then headed of up to kielder cafe what a nice day to ride a bike flat calm no rain and empty roads. Got to kielder and only one bike in the car park a gs 1200. So got speaking to the owner and his wife over a cuppa. Then back on the bikes up to Selkirk, then onto Saint Marys Loch, it was chocca block the queue was out the door, and they arnt the fastested to serve you so we had a sit in the sunshine then decided to go back to Selkirk but on the way back the was an unmarked police car at the Langham road end and the police were diverting all traffic down the Langham/Hawick road as there had been an accident on the Selkirk road. This was about 1ish. So we went from Hawick to Jedburgh to the cafe for a brew and a bite to eat. Then it was time to get back on the bikes and head back to Rothbury via the Otterburn ranges i love it in the ranges it is so quiet and the scenery is brilliant and no traffic especially no power rangers coming screaming past. It was 5 oclock by the time we got back to Rothbury so we had another sit in the sun before heading back to sunny Amble via Longframlington and Swarland. We did 230 mls and according to the bike computer i got 49.5 mpg and i have 151ml range left in the tank. Kelvin got 47mpg and has 131ml range left in his tank. This was our first longish run on the bikes since our 600ml service last week. I traded an 06 gsa in for my new one and kelvin traded an 07 gsa in for his new one. I was suprised how much smoother it is compared with the older one and it seems to have a lot more tourque lower down. All in all a great day enjoy the photos

We did a similar run a couple of weeks ago, over the ranges, selkirk and St Marys, It was a lot colder then but stunning roads with little to no traffic, the route round Megget water to St Marys was particularly breathtaking.

I like the green one in the second photo:D;)

Glad you had a nice day:thumb2

mort there is allsorts up there old sarrisons armoured cars and loads of different types of tanks . there is seven hundered square mls. We have been going up there for years winter and summer it is so quiet. the only people you see is the shepards who dont mind as long as you dont go off the roads when it is lambing. you have to watch out for bomb craters if you do go off road which fill with water, the moss grows over them and you dont know they are there untill it is to late. i tell you how i know i went straight into one head first all i could see was the back light and number plate of the klr 650 sticking up in the air it took four of us to get it out that was after everybody stopped laughing

more from the ranges

more green things on the ranges

yes it is for target practice there is hundreds of different types there. there is even a small railway where they stick big blocks of polystyrene onto the bogies and let them roll down the track and they use that as a moving target. you are allowed in to the ranges when the red flag is not flying it is not out of bounds. it is a national park, there is security gaurds that patrol but they never bother you all they do is pull up for a chat and once they see that you are a mature blokes and not a group of spotty erches they dont mind. like i said earlier we have been going up for years nearly every weekend in the summer. there is a shooting range aswell. there are some areas that you are not allowed onto but there is gates and signs to warn you. apart from those areas you more or less can go where you want. i have a mod map of the otterburn ranges so we know where everything is even the latrines. we have spoke to all different nationaltys squadies, who are on exersize, and even helped some that were lost and pointed them in the right direction irish gaurds, french army, belguin squadies. millitary police and like i said as long as you arnt misbehaving. and you NEVER EVER pick anyhing up it could be live? The only part we cant find is where top gear launched the reliant robin into orbit.

How about sorting a guided ride out on these roads for us local types.

Just in front of the tank shown in yalcrabm's 2nd pic are 3 missile craters where the jet has fire on the tank without success and 1 to the rear. Come on Yalcrab get the pics posted I know you've got them.

I'll go on any guided jaunt if only to keep yalcrab going in the right direction as he's getting on in years and tends to forget things :augie.

How does Mid May sound for a starting point?
