First Business Trip

Bikes

I have had this ion varous jobs they often seem to think your a millionair type(?) turning up on a bike or at least "how can you afford that" mind you have got a couple of jobs because of it! One man was into Rudges and another into Vins so not all negative. What about Aerostisch suits for business use! they can be worn over a suit.
dave ( I hate christmas) GS. Roll on 2010

I alwys visit clients by bike (don't have access to a car in the week). Only time it is a problem is when visiting more than one in a day and its peeing down - finding somewhere to drip can be a challenge.

Never had a client or prospective client have any problems with it - most are pleased to know that I am pretty well guaranteed to be on time.

Since passing my test 18 months ago nearly half of my work mileage has been by bike.

Apart from the ability to skip past rush hour traffic :censor: in London. I find I actually enjoy the journey to work :duck:

The only thing I need to do is improve the lighting for the night work journeys that I do. I enjoy riding at night more :loopy

Any amount of choice for lights nowadays and I also enjoy riding at night when coming home from work :JB

I sem to remember there was an article in our local paper about a Butcher who used to be local and moved to New York and used to deliver his Cumberland sausages in the panniers of his 12GS :D

Me too

As a GP I often visit my patients on my bike (much quicker, easier to park etc, etc). Lots of people seem rather surprised to see their doctor turn up on a bike but most love it (lots of them recount their youth spent on BSA's etc).

The only negatives I get are when it's raining and I drip all over their carpet (one well-to-do old couple made me strip to my underwear in their porch before they'd let me in!)

I've been thinking about the Aerostitch option but aparently they do leak a bit round the groin (don't really want to look like I've lost bladder control - not very confidence inspiring!). I noticed BMW had a new twat suit at the Bike Show - looked quite like an Aerostitch: All-in-one Gore-Tex jobby with big zips for easy on/off. Might be worth investigating?

Get yourself an xxxl one piece rainsuit, keeps the goretex stuff dry and you don't drip :rob

I go to various meetings on the bike, I used to park round the corner and get changed however, earlier this year I bought an Aerostich and it's great. In fact most customers don't realise I'm on a bike. It's only when they sometimes walk you to the door that they find out, oh and you do get remembered:thumb2

I believe the product / service is more important to your customer than the vehicle you ride/drive :D

I do believe that you and the product your selling are much more important than you mode of transport. After reading this thread many mores trips to be enjoyed visiting customers.

a mate of mine - a partner in a very upmarket Dublin Solicitors, is told off by his little old Ladies (he has a number of them ;) - as clients  ) if he DOESNT turn up on his Bike (Blackbird) in his Bike gear.

assumptions - including our own, can be misleading. ;)

Bike purchase agaist tax

I have been going to ask before. Has anyone had any trouble getting their bike purchase accepted as a company vehicle by their accountant ( through the business, mine a very small manufacturing business) or have we all paid from tax paid monies. I would like to know as I propose trying to pass mine on this years books. I did visit my accountant on the GS, as you all say, a conversation piece, didn't ask him at the time.

No probs, i've got part of it on the business as I use it for traffic if o0nly doing quoyes or tests that don't trequire laders steps etc. Makes life a lot happier, almost a pleasure going to see a real pia.

PS

Don't forget to add business cover on your insurance!.

If we lall ived on the Continent and in a large Town/City it would be expected that any sensible person would turn up on two wheels rather than four as a prefered mode of personal transport. Slight difference is that we do tend to get a bit more dressed up for the occassion through sense rather than fashion. This can unsettled some people who may have to wear rather dull "business" attire for work.
