First crash in years

or take the 2nd right after the LL heading westbound. Sometimes its no quicker, but it cuts out up to three sets of lights. Before heading down to the Aldgate mess.

I'm never sure nowadays which way to go when going West. Once upon a time, before the new tunnels East of the Isle of Dogs were opened, the Highway was great. Then, once it started filling up, Cable Street also worked OK. I live right over the Limehouse Link West India Quay), so it always seems natural to dive into it, but I am starting to think, with the bus lanes now being opened up to us, that just heading up the A13 is better.

Hah.. Snap... I used to use Cable Street (the cycle lane is handy!) and Narrow Street (that road used to be totally empty as was the IoD) before the LL came in.

Personally, I always preferred the Commercial Road to the Highway despite having a Red Light Jumper clip me at a set of lights some years ago along there. We've been using the bus lanes down there for years before they officially let us in back in Jan.

I find you get used to a route and the way it flows.

As for traffic islands; don't do it. You'll always be in the wrong and normally going slower than the oncoming traffic. If you've got the time take the tourist route through Wapping which joins the Highway just before the speed camera before St. Kaths.

Glad you're ok though.

Bus lanes are better?

Glad you and the bike are OK !

Used to use the Highway everyday and go over tower bridge. Its a bloddy dangerous road. I have seen at least one bike fatality on that road. Had a not so minor accident with a car. That's anothedr story.

Since Boris let us into the bus lanes I find East India Dock and Comercial Road slightly faster than the Highway and less stressful, although the speeds are lower.

I go through the Rotherhithe Tunnel and along Jamaca road now. With access to the bus lane it is just tolerable.

Don't know how far you go, give it a try if it suits.

Regards,

Path.

I don't actually commute on the bike, as I live and work in Canary Wharf, so these trips are just me being out and about.

The bus lane access will take some getting used to, as the rules are really not so clear yet. It seems, for example, that whenever the bus lane becomes a bus-only route, with different priorities to the rest of the road, that we are no longer allowed in (bottom of burdett road, for example). I fully expect some fines soon for staying in one of these after the bike signs stop.
