Hi,

really bonding with the bike after 6 months but after a few weeks of none use over the winter, it has become hard to select first gear when cold, as i like to use the engine to pull it out of the garage and up my gravel drive. Is this something that will disappear again with more regular use, or a sign of something progressively amiss??

Second, like to share some good news, when i bought the bike it had the dreaded fuel warning light flashing all the time and i took it to Kevin who was advertising on ebay doing a conversion from the fuel strip to the previous model float. He did the conversion and again after 6 months this is continuing to work perfectly, a very professional service, he says he also does the brake servo repair as well. Just for info.

Could it be a little bit of corrosion on the flywheel / pressure plate making it drag and hard to get into 1st gear, try slipping the clutch to see if it clears it.
Also check that there is full travel on the clutch lever, disengaging the clutch fully.
Good news about your fuel strip repair.

Check your gear lever linkages before you start digging deeper. The linkages have been known to get a bit sticky and sieze, strip them and grease up.

Can you buy a float kit conversion pack.?

I can get that done but I don't know where to get the kit or how much they are.

Shame it can't be done on a 2006 adventure, I've had 11 fuel strips now. Lol.

Method I use on cold 2008 GS that doesn't snick into first gear as you would like:

Start the bike
Clutch, select first gear, release clutch (first gear has not engaged although neutral light has gone out)
Clutch, select first gear (this time I would normal feel a more positive engagement through the gear lever) release clutch and off you go.
