Hi,

as the title suggest I'm planning my first morroco trip in september this year! :)

I remember talking about this topic to a very helpful 1150gs rider who helped my out on the touratech travel event when my bikes rad had a problem. Mine was the orange bike! You very kindly gave me your number so I could pick your brain but I have lost it! :)

If you still don't mind many question that would be great! :)

Hi Dave (I'm guessing!)

Pretty exciting isn't it!! Seriously, I made the trip solo in '09 on a V Strom, and I thoroughly enjoyed every minute of the week I spent there. I found the people friendly and welcoming, and most of them went out of their way to help in any way they could. Got pics of my bike in the foyer of a nice motel (ridden across the marble floor of course!), also in someones shed for the night too. It was great stuff
Of course, I went through all the stuff regarding tyres, desert conditioning etc. but I found in the end that I didn't need it. I didn't do any piste riding simply 'cos I was solo and as a novice trail rider I thought the risk was a bit high. Sort of had thoughts of lying, trapped, beneath a laden bike while the sun steadily dessicated me like a coconut!! So I stayed on the hard black stuff and it was great, even better I think than over here.

Get a copy of Chris Scott's "Morocco Overland", stay flexible in your planned route (my route changed dramatically on the first night after meeting a couple of north bound BMW riders, and around 40 bottles of beer between us:beer:) Watch out for the police too. They're everywhere with speed cameras, but I had no problem with 'em, just waving or saluting as I passed by. Almost always got a return salute, and had one of my most memorable biking experiences with a squad of 8 police bikers. :thumb Another story here methinks!
By the time you go, I should be somewhere up in Alaska or North America heading south, but if I can help just PM me.

sounds great mate, thats helpful! I'll be travelling with a couple of bikers, so we shall be tackling some off road stuff! Be rude not to when we are out there! It does all sound allot easier to get over there than I thought it would! :)

Dave, we rode down to Blandford couple of summers ago, I don't get up the 'hill much now as I am based over Salisbury way.
I did Morocco last September on a GS650 (single), was great fun, you'll get loads of advice on here but if you'd like to some route suggestions and see a whole heap of photo's just give me a shout.

I remember that weekend well! :) Route planning is being taken care off but photos to drawl over would be welcome!
