I have resisted for 10 years.....but you have made me do it
...that is become a member of UKGSer! I have viewed as a guest/ lurker and as a phoney Simon T for many years. but now I have my own log in and pic. and am looking forward to chatting to a few of you under my own name.
But for now I do have a question.....actually I've got more than one, but I thought I'd start slowly.
What do you think of our videos? I am talking about our trip videos. How about the one that we have just put up for South America? Shall we bother to post more videos of our trip up here?
I am having to ask this question as I find it note worthy that a good portion of our other threads with photos and videos have had nowhere near the views or replies but especially the replies (you know.. the interaction) that this Touratech video thread has generated.

Hi Lisa and welcome. I only stumbled upon your 2ridetheworld site as a result of this thread here but from what I have had time to read and view up to now has been impressive. Shall definitely be a more frequent visitor in the future.
Hopefully, when you're done with all this travelling and decide that the idea of feet up by the fire doesn't sound too bad after all, you might find the time to compile a boxed set of DVD's. For sure I would be interested.

Rather than send another email in reply to his email could you kindly inform him that I have received it and that the info contained was very useful so a big thank you to him for that.

oh...a nice simple one to start with Timolgra...
I think it would be more on what type of environment has left the greatest impression. and that would be deserts.
deserts of all types, not just the usual images of the hot and sandy ones..but also the high altitude ones. so, The Sahara, the high Bolivian Altiplano, The Gobi, and so the list can go on.
Simon and I have ridden over 17 deserts. and we just love them. The solitude they provide, the sheer beauty, their hidden power (they can kill), and therefore the respect they demand. and the way they make you feel when you are hammering along with your bike squirming beneath you, demanding every piece of concentration that you can muster at that moment. having to read the terrain coming up and making split second decisions as to the path you will take and how you will ride it. Is it soft sand, hard packed, any rock, gravel, tufts of grass to twist you off....and so on.
its their sheer size and how they make us feel...so...insignificant. How small a speck we are in this World.
...and how amazing it is to turn around 360 degrees and take a deep breath as you see that there is no other living soul within your horizon (well, other than Simon of course!)

however, if you want a country - there are three (sorry! cant have one) Argentina, South Africa and Thailand!

My question involves setting agendas. While I know you have certain commitments along the way, when they don't create a deadline, do you still set planned agendas for being at certain places at certain times, or do you freestylee in a general direction and just see what happens?
Oh and on your videos. Considering where you are and what kit you have, the production values are commendable. I particularly like the way you involve yourselves in the videos, something I tried to emulate but came up with extreme close ups of my nostrils. To capture yourselves riding is a pain in the bum, but you seem to have the knack well and truly honed down.
Storage and uploading video while on the road is a nightmare, so well done for finding time and patience to do that. I know that you've cost me thousands in equipment so that I can try and emulate what you do... and I still can't.

)Please just keep your posts ( and videos ) coming
. You are both doing something that many of us cannot or will not do ( for whatever the reasons) and are using the right tools for the job, not just visiting bike shops and cafes etc !! I genuinely believe you have a massive 'quiet' following from the members on UKGSer. You will always get the 'johny-know-alls' as on any forum.. so please don't be deterred and keep the members happy by continually posting.

Its a bit of both really. Our agenda is normally set by how long a visa will last and the weather. (money too- ie how expensive it is to travel in that country).
so - i first look at can we get a visa and if so where and for how long will it last? For example: just paid for our lao visa here in Phnom Penh Cambodia. we had been told by another traveler that we could get one at the border Cambodia to lao. I found out this is not the case after some research and asking around!
Then I look at how easy is it and/or costly to get the bikes in. can we use the carnet? for lao we can use the carnet as we have had here in Cambodia (they sometimes charge a $1 'fee' for 'processing')...
then the weather at the time we will arrive. if its going to be full on rainy season and the country hasnt any roads....then we will look at changing our route. currently its getting hotter and hotter here in Cambodia and more so when we get into Lao. the rainy season will start in another 6 -8 weeks maybe. during that time we want to be in southern Thailand heading to Malaysia as the best time to travel there is from April....
other than that we go and see what happens. i do always do a bit of reserach in areas not to venture into, receommended areas to go into and so on.
so there is a lot to research. some travellers like to do it 'on the fly'. I dont when it comes to paperwork and visas and rainy seasons!! other than that it is mostly seeing what pops up.
as this is a lifestyle and not a 'holiday' (despite what some think!) we are unable to afford to do a lot of the usual tourist things. our traveling through and getting to know a country is shopping at local markets for food, stopping in small villages, camping in the wild and so on - rather than paying an entrance fee to visit something.
the best thing is have a rough plan and be prepared to alter it. but the best thing is...never tell your riding partner the whole plan so they dont know that you are making it up as you go along!! and they still have complete and utter faith in you.

I think one possible reason for the relative lack of interest in your past videos may be that you set off on your travels at a time when many peeps were just discovering adventure motor cycling in general, and Gs's in particular, and certainly before the great increase in this site's membership. IMHO it's easier to follow a story from the start perhaps knowing the individuals involved, and seeing their preparations, than it is to pick up an adventure half way through.
Until this thread I'd heard of Tiffany, and recognised the respect some peeps give her, but she hadn't really registered on my radar. I've now resolved to follow her travels more closely.
The other side of this coin is the travels of Lois Pryce. Elvie caught her at one of her talks, between trips, and as she's at home and actively promoting her travels, she's easier to find and follow.
One other possible reason is that the Gs has become such a mainstream bike that many peeps ride them but have little or no interest in adventure motorcycling.

The advertising leaflet for the Companero that was slipped into a TT magazine that I received this morning states the guarantee period as being 10 years. . Absolutely no idea what conditions are applied to the guarantee but I can't see them being much different to the conditions that others place on their gear.
