HI, just had first ride on 3 month old 1200gs.Abit different from what i am used to( jap multis) ,but i can now see the attraction of these machines.The bikes done 4k. Should the shaft drive be super smooth? It feels like it has worn chain and sprockets, vibes through footpegs, when the throttle is closed and slowing down.- should the engine pop and bang( backfire) on a closed throttle as well?

Hi and welcome.
The GS will certainly feel more vibey than a Jap 4 cylinder,and the popping on closing the throttle is normal. I haven't ridden a chained bike since I passed my test and the riding school bikes were a little bit on the abused side of the care and maintenance standards so no comment about the feel of the shaft - someone will probably be along soon tho.
