Took my ‘old’ R1200R to Dalkeith today for a service and borrowed their ‘new’ R1200R LC for a while. Nice motor.

I enjoyed a dry 122 miles down through Galashiels and Peebles and beyond, then headed back to Dalkeith before getting caught in the predicted downpour on the way home at 2pm. I’d forgotten how good those roads are on a quiet day, but I refrained from any high speed jinks as the boys in blue work 9 to 5 as well.

The new bike feels a lot nippier than the old one though I found the throttle Dynamic mode to be a bit twitchy at lower speeds and preferred Road mode overall. As with my current bike I find it almost impossible to spot the difference between the ESA suspension modes. Maybe it needs a pillion to make a difference.

I love the cruise control at any speed from 30 upwards. The quickshift is good most of the time, but there are times when manual control is better. Just needs practice to know when NOT to use it.

Got used to the indicators very quickly.

I also found the seat to be a bit low and hard. I’d happily trade off having feet flat on floor for more distance between seat and pegs.

At fill up time the dash suggested 209 miles combining range left plus distance ridden. After filling up the dash read range 240 miles.

I've been hammering up and down the A7 for over 40 years and only got pulled over once a very long time ago. However, these days, I usually hang a right onto the B7007 and then B709 these days.

I think you will find that there is a liquid pumping around the engine and it is not 100% water so the LC nomenclature is more accurate.

So BMW themselves, calling it the wasser-boxer, are wrong......

You guys are so touchy.......:aidan

Ordered an RS in March. Blue one of course.

Nice one looking forward to riding one along with the 1200R and XR!

Will be ordering a new GS in the next few weeks though to replace my 13 plate although one more trip to Austria before I get it.

Is anyone running the standard (no frills) 'R' version

I've ridden the SE version and liked it but I'm not sure I need/want all the SE's farkles

The wife has the basic and i have got everything apart from keyless and fast shift.

I have had mine about 3 weeks and angie only got hers Wednesday.

I love gadgets and angie hates them.

I think you can see where this is going :augie

But we both love the motor and how it handles in the mountains.:bow

I would say its better than a GS in mountains :hide:

Panniers are not waterproof and water gets into the locks that hold it on the rails.

And it needs a rehugger, water gets thrown everywhere

The sport seat is more comfortable than the stock one.

Hope this helps but probably does not.;)

Thanks for the heads up on the panniers. My wife picks her sport version (with every single option!) up tomorrow. Her panniers are going to be a couple more weeks as they're on back order.

She won't be happy about the hugger. One of the things she hates about her current street triple is the line of mud it leaves up the back of her jacket, even with the triumph hugger.

Givi do racking for their V35 33 litre panniers which I would recommend after using them on my K1300R.

Wunderlick have a rehugger coming out end of July. Cost about 160€
There is a waterproof inner bag you can get for the panniers.
Not see one so do not know how good it is.

I've seen the BMW liners on another forum. The guy wasn't impressed. He said they were really well made but were very thick and took up far too much of the space in the pannier. He described them as being like a padded bra :)
The wife's going to look at third party ones. I have Kathy's for the GS but not sure if they do waterproof ones for the R.

I'll tell her about the hugger. Cheers

Well the wife picked up her r1200r on Saturday.

We did 300 miles over the weekend. She loves the bike, the engine and the suspension. She says it goes like stink and handles really well. She went for the sport screen and says there's no buffeting or excess noise (she's 5'1" and went with the low seat)

What she's not too happy with is the fact that at the end of the trip we noticed a red mark on her boots. It seems the red paint from the frame is rubbing off on her boots. It's gone back to the dealer for it sorting and also some protection putting on to stop it happening again. Paint should certainly last more than a weekend!
