Well after getting my new GS just before Christmas yesterday was my first ride out due to commitments and of course the weather. It was a great day on a great bike 130miles of rural road the bike went well and I really enjoyed it. It feels big but at the same time not to big and weight distribution is well set up. Did I do the right thing with the auto box well it’s strange but I’ll get used to it, I must remember not to touch the throttle when stationary at light or in traffic. It crawls really well at around 4mph.
So far it’s a big smile from me.
I’ve only got one question so far because I’m so small it’s a bit of a reach for the bars especially at slow speed on more lock. I’ve never had any rises before but do you think it’s worth getting some of these angled risers to bring the bars back a bit, anyone got any fitted and does it affect anything?

Thanks from a happy bunny.🏍️🐰

You can try loosening the handlebar clamps and tilt the bars back a little. Just check they don't hit the tank on full lock. There are marks on the bars near the clamps as a reference.
Sorry if I'm stating the obvious.

I think there was another thread recently in the risers and what was better the straight up ones or up and back…. I just can’t find it at the mo. Maybe someone can link you to it or put the link in this thread for you.

I have the higher handlebar option on my 1300 GSA but I still fitted the BMW risers. Only up, not up and back and they work fine for me.
Good luck and glad you like your new bike👍👍👍

Up only 20mm makes a big difference to the bars but others go for the up and back if you feel u may need more. nippynorman does several sizes.

"Big but at the same time not too big and weight distribution is well set up" is a good description!

Yesterday I took my new GS out for the first time as well. It reached 15, and sunny. I rode out my sloppy wet driveway and dirt/mud road to the paved roads which were dry but covered in grit and glistened with salt from snow earlier in the week. This winter has played havoc on the road surfaces as well but it sure felt good to get out on a motorcycle!

Over this initial 95 miles that I rode I couldn't have been more pleased with the suspension, power, ergonomics, gearing, shifting, air management, and handling. I can tell this is going to be a very nice motorcycle capable of all kinds of riding over all types of roads.

My nit pick is having to navigate through the cumbersome menus so I need to do more reading of the manual or find tutorial videos. For instance the additional lights were not on even though the settings menu showed "On". I eventually got it to show "Off" with a check in the box to the left in order for them to stay on. After tweaking a couple other settings I couldn't return to the main display so I had to ride with the menu showing in spite of pressing and scrolling the menu button, up/down button, and the wonder wheel. How does one "return" to the main display showing speedometer, tachometer, etc?

So far I've added an AltRider luggage plate to the top case carrier, MRA windshield to replace the fly screen, and side stand foot. The SW-Motech aluminum panniers arrived yesterday from Motostorm in two boxes, somehow navigating through our customs, but the all important 3rd box with the mounts and instructions isn't due for delivery until Monday.

I have the OW BMW risers on my 24 R1300GS.....made a big difference

They come in 4 parts and correspondingly sized bolts - Standard suppy with the Trophy pack

They are 2 x 15mm straight up pieces, so you can either have 15mm or 30mm

Someone was selling a set on her recently......quick check and they sold

There was a guy on Ebay selling these packs last year. He had about a dozen sets still in original wrapping. His are sold out

I just searched on the part number

Normally, you have to back up through the menu hierarchy to reach the main screen, by pushing "left" on the wonder wheel.

However, there is a shortcut by pressing and holding the top of the menu button (long press) you will be returned to main screen.

Thanks Richard I'll go out give that a further try. After a while I pulled off and consciously pressed, then pressed and held wheel left, wheel right, arrow up, down, menu button. while on each of the function displays. Shut the bike off for 5 minutes then restarted but the display stayed in the menu. Something simple I'm not doing or not doing correctly......

Thanks leadfarmer. I had been both pressing and pressing and holding that button to no avail. When I just went out and powered it up after sitting since yesterday the main display with speedo came up. After going to different menus it'd return to the main display after pressing the menu button so working fine now.
