First service cost on 08 GSA - does this seem high?

Did you not have to get an annual done as well?

I had my Oct 07 GSA serviced two weeks ago, 12k + annual was £322... (not incl pads as they wanted £60 to replace the rear brake pad)

The biggest single item from the service schedule was the brake fluid change (non servo, ABS), but its difficult to break it down as the invoice combines all of the labour into one line item.

All prices above were with VAT - why do dealers persist on quoting you without it???

For example. telcon to find out price:

Me: So that quote includes VAT and labour?
Service Dept: Yes

Me have work done
Me Go to Pay
Service dept: The quote didnt include VAT :blast

There should be a consumer law to prevent traders from quoting VAT-exclusive prices.

How much is my impending annual inspection going to cost? :blast

Annual is only required when the next service interval does not fall within the year is it not? :confused:
i.e. if you do 6000miles+ a year you get the relevant 6k interval service done when you reach the correct mileage. If you do less than 6k a year it gets an annual service. I have never ever had an annual service done on any bike I have owned.

Either way, if his bike is a 08, I doubt it's needed an annual just yet. The clue is in the name. ;)

I dont know the details of 'Nuffsaid's bike - but isnt it confusing how they all differ by so much?

From new, in ten months mine has had its 600, its 6000, and then a combined 12000 and annual.

Trying to get a standard answer is very difficult, dont know why it has to be...?

Cos Stealers won't be able to rip you off for an annual service you don't need if they give you the info. :nenau

My last bike was an aprilia and the dealer was trying to get me to service it every 4k when the schedule is actually every 6k.

I emails customer services and got confirmation of this and passed this on to the dealer, who then apologised and said they had assumed it was the same as the previous model which was 4k.

Dealers don't always get it right.

Try emailing BMW customer services for a definitive answer.
 
I negotiated mine in with the bike purchase but AJ's at Shipley charge £100

Hmmm, Not sure about the annual service in addition to the normal services?:nenau

My Bike is a March '08 GS Adv, Now got 14k beautiful miles on it :thumb, I got the 12k service cost wrong :blast it was £170(Inc VAT), not £180 as I originally said ... so, so far service costs are 1.75p per mile .... If I had taken my own oil along for the service, it would have been cheaper again - at that price though, I think it would be a little penny pinching.

Also .........I got a flier through from Bahnstormers last week, they are doing a Valet service ( Upgraded cleaning, leather dry, Autoglym polish and the bit I liked is that they would spray all the exposed bits in Scottoiler FS65) and give you what they hadn't used in the bottle back! All for £25 including the FS65 ... as my next service is in November I reckon I will sign up for that to keep the salt fairies away.....:beerjug:

One of the hidden costs I found out about when I purchased from Vines. I can only assume they do not give a free first service.

I went to Bahnstormers after that and I only paid for fluids.

Since the cost of the first service is no longer included in the on the road cost of the bikes it's up to the dealers to decide how they charge for it. My local dealer SBW Motorrad charge a flat rate of £50 plus the cost of the consumables used during the service.

Ok, as yours is only six months old, its too early for its annual (where have you been on it!??!) seriously though, looks like you're loving it!

The annual would include the brake fluid change, which adds up to about £100 or so for the labour (using the Maintenance Schedule as a guide, it shows 5 'FRU' for the front brake fluid, and 4 for the rear. I think an FRU is 15 mins which would work out to 2 hrs 15 mins to change all the brake fluids on an non-servo ABS bike).

I think the way they work out what needs to be serviced now is to take your bike registration and mileage, type it all into their rinky dinky new computer system which will then tell them what items need to be serviced at that time. As we all do different mileages over different periods, things will appear way out over the short term, but even out as the years go by.

Reading a bit more closely, the brake fluid change is 'initially after one year, the every two years'
 
Just had my first service at Williams too. :thumb Also brought 2 t shirts and a cap and the bill came to £62.54 :bounce1
 
In March 08 at time of purchase i was advised of the standard £50 parts and labour for running in service cost, Clarkes birmingham. Suprised by your post!
 
You've got to negotiate the first service when you buy the bike - otherwise you could get a nasty surprise. SLM charge a flat £100, I've had close to that for some of my jap bikes.

Had the 6k service done yesterday (well it was 7150k miles) at Pidcock in Long Eaton. Was £181, including a loan bike (R1200R) for the day.

I'm happy with that price. Was getting charged a lot more for the old bike (1200GSF Bandit) every 4000 miles!
Looks like £180 is about the standard charge for the 6k sevice.
 
2 year 13k service today at vines, £433 incl VAT and including the rear pads and fluids. This is also after I had just bought and picked up a new 800gs last week.

My car servicing is cheaper than that and that has four of most things!!

I must be soft in the head.................but never again.......... til next time:(
