Just done my first 600 miles on my R1200GSA 90th Ann edition. Got the bike on Saturday so happy to do the running in as per the book (higher and higher revs up to occasional redlining during last 150 miles. Was annoyed that the dealership said to keep the revs under 4k for first 600 miles. This is crazy advice and completely not what is written in the user manual for all post 2010 bikes. Maybe this was correct for pre 2010 GS bikes but my bike is 2013 purchased new 5 days ago!

Anyway was very disappointed to hear what they will charge me for the first service. GBP178.50 incl VAT.

Please can someone tell me if I am being ripped off this looks very high and from what I've heard by word of mouth people say its definitely on the high side compared to other dealerships. When I told the guy who took my bike this morning he said nobody had ever said they were dissatisfied with the price charged for first services by Cooper Tunbridge Wells. I think this is a plain blatant lie. If anyone can tell me the opposite I'd like to go back them with proof it's not true.

Overall apart from the Sales Rep Elle, who is excellent, the rest of the dealership is very poor. Countless errors by the mechanics over the years ranging from delivering bikes with parts missing, incorrect tyre pressures, giving non ABS / non ESC high performance bikes (S1000RR) out to new riders as loan bikes without explaining this slightly important fact.

Would really like to name and shame Coopers. They need to improve and are letting down BMW in the South East.

Why upset the local dealership you got the bike from so that they have no desire to offer you goodwill in future?

If you point out the error and they don't attempt to put it right, Why don't you vote with your feet:confused:

Easy for you to say if your local dealership is Bahnstormer.

I want to upset them (as your say) because it's just plain wrong and others should know and be warned about the likely levels of poor service and high costs to boot. There's always the chance they'll get the message and improve. They've already had many changes in management, mechanos, after sales. But as far as I can see after 5 years and 5 bikes from them, it's not getting better. I think I've been patient enough!!!!!

Enough is enough!

When you bought the bike you should have negotiated a 1st service in with the deal.

So, no one to blame really.

I'm sorry that's idiotic. The first service is a standard fixed amount of work. How can it cost more in Tunbridge Wells than in London, Alton or Guildford. If you paid a third more for any other standard vanilla generic product just because the branch wants to you'd be pissed off. Why do we accept such huge variations in what customers are charged for the same damned thing. It's mad.

I don't mind paying for the first service but I do mind paying way more than any other place in the south east, getting shitty service, have the accessory pack not in stock and then to be told I'm the first ever person to be dissatisfied with Cooper Tunbridge Wells = Bad dealership or worst dealership?

Any comments from people who's actually used Coopers would be appreciated rather than mindless drivel like your comment.

This was the comment that was not worthy of a brain dead monkey.

Why?:nenau Some dealers will include a free first service when you order a new bike, IF you negotiate it in with the deal.:rob

Again I agree one should walk but they are in my home town. Do I have to ride to Alton to get decent service?

If the gearbox and drive - whine as much as you are ..................

You're going to need a bank-loan.

Al:rolleyes:

Let me get this right ...

... you've bought five bikes over five years from a dealer with whom you have major issues; you moan about the cost of first service, which you didn't negotiate into the purchase price, and you reside somewhere in the Home Counties, a section of the country awash with BMW dealers. Are you trying to get into Elle's pants ?

A fixed amount of work, yes obviously, well done for working that out, and why a dealer can usually negotiate with a known price when selling a bike to most reasonable people. .

But even a brain dead monkey must understand the cost of rents/overheads varies from area to area. You can't run a BMW dealership like Ikea. It can't pile services high and sell them cheap.
In affluent tunbridge wells i'd imagine it cost more for the dealer on your doorstep than in Blackburn ( no offence to anyone living in blackburn) .
Imagine the poor sod in blackburn who has to pay tunbridge wells/south east prices at his local dealer, who in turn is paying a fraction of the premises rental/staff wages than the S/E operations.

I have often said that I would not be satisfied with the price charged by Coopers Tunbridge Wells. I believe I may have said as much only yesterday and the Monday before last.

There you go. Proof as plain as the nose on your face.

Go for it, mate :thumby:

That's outrageous. Please give more details, so that we can avoid.

I went to buy a bike from them years ago and wasn't impressed so walked out

I then learned that chandlers were doing bikes in hove/portslade they were for me a joy to deal with although i have heard varying remarks from different people

I went back to Coopers for a look around and still wasn't that impressed with them so sticking to Chandlers

5 bikes in 5 years from a dealer you say has made countless errors and you feel overcharges, makes me think YOU are the "brain dead monkey"

back to the original question my 600 miles service was £146.00 from Barry Robson dealership in york.

FWIW I know two people who prefer to ride to CW in Dorchester rather than use Bahnstormer who are more local.

Why do you feel you need to use a 'local' dealership rather than try elsewhere and maybe enjoy the ride there and back, unless a trip to Tescos is your limit?

Negotiating a first service is a "deal closer" before you agree to sign.

You must be a salesmans dream, I bet they even charge you for the coffee.
