First Service - R1200GSA _ Cooper Tunbridge Wells

You dont want to hear this but.

It's all down to luck. I think Coopers Tunbridge Wells always helped me and often went above and beyond. Bahnstormers were ever so much unhelpful, deceitful and really couldnt be fucking arsed. Vote with your feet. or even maybe your bike, new OR old.

Thats all folks. I'm now NOT going to get my coat, as it's too bloody warm....

I brought my GSA new from Coopers in 2010, got 1st service done as part of the deal, had a warranty issue sorted no problems, but then went to Steptoe for the 6000 mile service just before i went to Alaska with Bilko, I shall be getting it done again with Steptoe in a few weeks, it does not affect your warranty. :thumb2

Christ there are some challenged people on this forum. :blast

Yes spoken with dealership, no don't want to go elsewhere, I wanted simply to see if anyone else had a similarly poor impression of this dealer as compared to Vines, Bahnstormer etc...

And secondly to see if the first service price was reasonable or not.

That's all. Why this is such a bad malicious thing to ask is beyond me. :nenau

You've been back there time and again why?, and as for calling Steppers a dead brained monkey well, he's the greatest technical bod on here and maybe one day you'll need his advice.

It would appear I was overcharged for my 1st service and am now in credit for my 6000 miler:thumb

Thanks Elle:beerjug:

I have used coopers for many years, generally without issue and certainly no more than my local car dealers. Make the effort to build up a good rapport with the service manager Steve, I've received lots of goodwill and in return they haver received lots of cash. Elle also sold me my 1200gsa, she is very good. If you want to lower your bill they are also willing to use oil you provide. You pays your money and takes your choice. BTW I don't work for coopers.

Just done my first 600 miles on my R1200GSA 90th Ann edition. Got the bike on Saturday so happy to do the running in as per the book (higher and higher revs up to occasional redlining during last 150 miles. Was annoyed that the dealership said to keep the revs under 4k for first 600 miles. This is crazy advice and completely not what is written in the user manual for all post 2010 bikes. Maybe this was correct for pre 2010 GS bikes but my bike is 2013 purchased new 5 days ago!

Anyway was very disappointed to hear what they will charge me for the first service. GBP178.50 incl VAT.

Please can someone tell me if I am being ripped off this looks very high and from what I've heard by word of mouth people say its definitely on the high side compared to other dealerships. When I told the guy who took my bike this morning he said nobody had ever said they were dissatisfied with the price charged for first services by Cooper Tunbridge Wells. I think this is a plain blatant lie. If anyone can tell me the opposite I'd like to go back them with proof it's not true.

Overall apart from the Sales Rep Elle, who is excellent, the rest of the dealership is very poor. Countless errors by the mechanics over the years ranging from delivering bikes with parts missing, incorrect tyre pressures, giving non ABS / non ESC high performance bikes (S1000RR) out to new riders as loan bikes without explaining this slightly important fact.

Would really like to name and shame Coopers. They need to improve and are letting down BMW in the South East.

When I have a cock of a client I start by being expensive and progress to being unhelpful. They usually fuck off or get the message. Either way its quite fun. I hope they read this thread and wipe dog shit on your grips.

A very good reason why every customer should be very careful where they spend there money.

It's the above average forum user I'm targeting. Yep funny how the sheeple in a crowd follow eachother. This thread has momentum to defend the dealership, which is fine. But the useful replies are those with a similar or contrary experience to share of this particular dealer. Not useless brain dead moronic suggestions to 'go elsewhere'. Hadn't thought of that mr average forum user!!!! :blast

Thanks all anyway. Certainly highlights the calibre of many who frequent this forum.

hadnt thought of that, just go elsewhere

I'm still reeling in shock that BMW advise you can redline a new Twin Cam within the first 600 miles?

I thought that was Demo Bikes only? :augie

What is interesting in this thread is that it's not until post 43 that anyone has challenged that steptoe isn't a "brain dead monkey"

I think you need to tell us exactly what they are doing to your bike because that is not just a service:eek

Righto
BMW dealers --- I bought mine from Astles and screwed them to the floor for my GS last August I didn't ask about first service charge as it didn't occur to me to do so and I got a small shock at £150 but was happy enough
The price they then quoted for the 6k service shocked me ( i cant recall exactly how much it was ) so it went to an independent and there it will remain for servicing and maintenance

This is not to say I am unhappy with the service or support I got from Astles in any way it's just an example of what your options are in this world of pain

Allow me to pontificate.:rob
1, You have over several years bought 5 bikes from said dealer and had nothing but bad experiences with the dealer. This says more about you, than about them !.Why have you gone back to them ?:blast
2,Do you not think that if the cost of the 600 service was such an important factor, you should have checked before buying the bike. Again, this says more about you, than about them. ALSO , ahem, if sir has to worry about the cost of the service perhaps sir should have bought a CBF125 (very cheap to run):hide
3, It appears that several people have paid less, and some people have paid more. SO WHAT, IT HAS EXACTLY NO BEARING ON YOUR STORY

now listen to the following words of wisdom very carefully !!!!!. You sir are exactly the type of person who worries too much about what the other fella is getting/doing. The internet breeds a lot of this type of behaviour ,probably due to the ease of access it present to all and sundry. Its not always a good thing.

Lastly, my 600 service on my RT was free, as was the first service on my previous GS.

Well mate, you are certainly angry about this, but don't take it out on the forum. A bit of gentle wind up is always on offer he, especially if your a bit sensitive ( even if they agree with you!)

I have bought several bikes from Coopers Tun wells, and all from Elle, who is a star. But this time they couldn't get to the deal I received from the excellent team at Chandlers, who DID throw in a free first service because they really wanted my business. Always ask, they can only say no!

So, if you don't like the service you have received, I would suggest that you give the team at Coopers a chance to fix it. Speak to Steve, and tell him how your feeling. If no joy, move to Chandlers.

Good luck mate!

I too use Astle, but when I need the bike servicing I ring around, find the cheapest price. Then get Astle to match that price. works for me !!:thumb

600 service

600 service Bristol Mottorad April 2010
Parts £74.13
Labour £50
VAT £21.72

Total £145.85

Given this was three years ago and Bristol wages/overheads prob less than Tunbridge Wells, Cooper's bill doesn't seem excessive.

(Didn't ask for free service as the guys were doing me some favours which saved me a fair bit - nothing relevant to this thread)

Service costs

What was the cost of each of the first services on the previous 5 bikes that you bought from them?
