Just had the 'free' first service at Rainbow on my 1200. Apparently BMW have adopted the Japanese position....labour is free but you pay for oil, filters etc. Cost me £36! According to Shaun this applies to all new bikes registered in 2005.

Same thing for me at Allan Jefferies in October last year :mad: :mad: :mad:

Castrol GP 4 litres = £14
Oil filter genuine BMW = £10
Total = rip off

For the dealer to be charging an extra 36 quid on top of the £10500 you've just paid for the bike seems to me to be miserly in the extreme.

FWIW, my first service was free, but that was last september.

See previous threads. It seems to vary from dealer to dealer. NOG was completely foc - not a sausage.

when i ordered my bike i was told about the cost for the 600 mile service... i then managed to get it included as part of the package within my bartering....

i suspect the dealers expect this, and are using it as a way to "offer you less" in the way of bartering......therefore maximising their return.....

i still think it's a bloody cheek when you spend that much money... a disgrace on the part of BMW!!!

I bought my first new bike (a KTM) in 1974 and have had several other new bikes and cars since then. To the best of my knowledge I've had to pay for the parts on the 'free' first service on all of them. Why should the first service be 'free' anyway? £36 on a £10,000 bike is really not worth getting stressed over. :confused:

I agree, you always have the option of not having them do the service (just try getting any warrenty claim honoured afterwards though!).

Think yourself lucky.
I just paid £175 for the 1000-mile service on my LR and that was nothing more than an oil & filter change (didn't take more than an hour). At least the first service on the GS was only parts which came to about £30ish.
