First time on a motorcycle for seven months….. and it’s the mighty Himalayan.

Off to the excellent Bacon’s dealership in Romford to have the spark plug lead replaced under warranty and have a second replacement front brake switch fitted, also under warranty. I am not sure why the brake light switch fails. Either there is a little bit of corrosion that comes in if the bike isn’t used for an extended period or it just stops working? Other than that, the tyres had each lost 10 lbs, just sitting in my garage, the bike firing up first time, having sat on an Optimate since 01 June.

I usually ride with the balls of my feet on the footrests, as opposed to my instep. This, at the moment, is a bit uncomfortable on my right leg, as my Achilles is stretching at a strange angle or my motorcycle boot is trapping it somehow. Hey-ho at least I can walk again.

Tomorrow, I’ll fit the chain oiler, and replace the relays, with some not made out of cheese. I’m also going to change the pads for some sintered ones, just to tweak the brakes up a bit.

PS Nick at Bacon’s tells me that they’ll have a Himalayan WC demonstrator bike in the shop in early to mid February. They have already sold their first batch allocation, based on nothing but the good reviews on the internet.

Riding the bike back from Newbury Park
to Wapping A12 > A406 > A13 in heavy late afternoon London traffic, reminded me what a good bike (all 25 BHP of it) it is.

It has enough 0 to 50 pick-up to get on with it. You sit reasonably high-up, sufficient to see over most cars, rather than through them. The headlight doesn’t dazzle other road users, in the blaze of a thousand suns. The CEAT tyres are fine on greasy roundabouts, only a bit above freezing. I didn’t need to turn on the heated grips (Oxford, which were a post-sale add on) my Rukka ‘Lobster claws being more than adequate. It sips petrol.

Now that the spark plug lead is sorted out, I’ll fit the upmarket spark plug, change the relays (there are five) and fit the oiler. A free flow air filter, I done. I also have an alternative small tank bag to try out, which should complement the BMW tail pack thing. I think that will be it.

This is good news and most welcome at the moment.
Pleased to read it. Stay safe and take it easy, 7 months off, back on greasy, wet, dark and busy roads, look after yourself.

New spark plug and relays fitted, after which I couldn’t feel my fingers.

I miss my Himalayan! I don't miss the seat to bum to feet relationship. I just miss the rest of it!

Enjoy!

Congratulations on getting back on the road - the mighty Himalayan is a great bike to get back on the road. Perfect for this time of year as well - not too powerful (!) and nicely mannered 🙂

Looks like you are certainly enjoying the Himalayan! As you have read I am currently considering one, and will be following your recommendations and suggestions with interest! Glad to hear you’re back on a bike, why so long off? Sounds like an op of some kind?

Thank you. I ruptured my Achilles on 31 May, then spent three months in a boot 24/7. Then followed three months of physio etc. I am now cured.
