Hello,
I need to wire in my Zumo and to do that (I think) I need to remove my tank so I can get at the wiring underneath (the power cable from the power socket on the left back down under the tank) so this will be the first time I have ever removed any tank off any bike, so I was wondering..

a) how to go about it

b) What to watch out for..

I could just take it to the dealer but I would like to do this myself, a bit Richard Briers self sufficiency and all that, oh the bike is a 1150 gs adventure.

Thanks!

Get the tank as empty as possible, for obvious reasons
disconnect the fuel lines x2 and the leccy plug next to them on the right side, remove plastic panel and undo that bolt, lift and pull back and should all come away.
Make sure you have something to put it on like a bit of carpet, not just the floor as likely to damage the corners and you lower it :thumb

No need to remove the tank to be honest. Just prop the tank up at the rear with a piece of wood so that you can get at the battery terminals.

Then just run your live up the nearside of the frame.

When the tank is proped up, shine a torch up the left hand side. You will see a large group of cables about half way along, go to the right of that loom so that your live cable does not fret against the tank. :thumb2

Ideally put your cable in some PVC sleeving.

Add a couple of zip ties top and bottom and the jobs a good 'un..:D

I have done a few like this...........:augie

Assuming it's on an 1150 GSA ;) you can get the cables down one side fairly easily, and out of sight. I did it that way. After taking the seat off, take the little plastic panel off that's forward of it. Then, without disturbing the throttle cable, it's not too hard to get the lead up to the front of the tank by following the thottle cable etc.

HTH.

Make sure that it almost empty, remove R/Hand plastic cover, unclip multi connecter.unclip 3xfuel lines and pull the cross over fuel line from the L/Hand side, pull apart the two over flow pipes at their connecters. undo bolt and nut thats it now left up and away

Removal as instructions above

Main thing to remember when putting it back is to make sure that the right hand throttle cable is seated correctly- you cant imagine the panic I had when I lifted the tank for the first time and it wouldnt run properly afterwards. Plenty of pictures available on these hallowed pages.

Here is the offending part ...

... just ensure it's seated properly :thumb2
