Just been quoted £392.11 for first year service on my GSA. Oil and brake fluid change!! Is that reasonable or are my pants well and truly being pulled down!! £230 labour, wtf!

They have quoted £125 for 5 litres of oil (from their bulk supply) - can already get 5 x 1 litres for £74 from another BMW dealer on line, so thinking of supplying but they'll probably complain!

Seems about "right" based on what I was charged at Cotswold on my 24 plate R1300GS for the first annual. I questioned the need for a brake fluid change on a 12 month old bike and was told somewhat unsurprisingly that I don't have to have it done but it may affect future warranty claims. Along with the 6k service intervals it's far from ideal. Profits are definitely being targeted more aggresively on ownership nowadays rather than original purchase price.

The manual says regarding the brake fluid change “for the first time after one year, then every two years”.

A service plan may have been a better option. That’s more than I paid for my KTM1290SAS 27,000 mile service and that included all fluids & rear brake pads.

Was told service plan was only worthwhile if doing higher mileage, but at this price might be an opportunity missed. Oh well is what it is, bend over pants down and take it! After year two service, to keep the 3 year warranty, will do it myself!

I paid £330 last year for my 1300 gs, so about right, I think they all raised their prices when the Ni went up last year.

Why not try an independent. !

First few services they often do a software update to iron out niggles (or cause problems!) so don't think indie has access to those. Just keeping going for warrenty then will do myself - which makes this even harder to swallow when I know would cost me <£100 to do! Maybe they'll wash it for me!!

I got the first service 600 mile thrown in as an incentive so no cost to me. Was asked if I wanted to buy a 3year 18k service plan currently £1240 for the R1300GS.
I will do at least 6k a year maybe a touch more so my plan is to take out the service plan on the day of my 6k service so with 3 years or 18k miles should cover the 6k 12k 18k and 24k services 👍👍 which I think gives a pretty big saving ?

I think you might find you’ll only get 3 services, not 4.

Thought you could only take service plan out from new, not after a year (or 6000 miles)? If you did buy later wouldn't it cost more?

It is 3 years or 18000 miles, there is no mention of number of services 👍 my last R1300GS I took one out the plan on the day of the 600 and it covered 600 6k 12k 18k because it is a 3 year 18k plan. No mention of how many services although 4 is the max in 3 years 18k miles 👌

You can take out anytime up to 10 year old bike I believe 👍

BMW do seem to take the piss .
First service on my X-Diavel £214 !
But not as much piss as most Japanese big bikes these days 16k service seems to run between £700 and £950 at a main dealer 👍

Agreed. In NL they even charge you the time it takes one of their Muppets to do a quick test ride......No joke....I have the invoice to prove it......

Which is irrelevant to many .
How many people see 16k miles on a bike these days ?
Obviously some on here do big miles but the majority do not . I bet the average rider on here doesn’t do more than 5k a year .
I don’t do more than 5/6k most years and that’s spread over a couple of bikes .
So that’s 15k in three years and if it’s a BMW then being traded in as the PCP/ warranty will be up

I got charged a test ride ride fee when the tech wanker drilled out a seat bolt on my R9 T Urban . The bike wasn’t even rideable as he’d fucked the seat . They wanted £150 for 10 minutes work . Told them to go do one and walked out without paying a penny . My last transaction involving a new BMW . Utter cúnts . Luckily they lost the franchise a few years later
